I saw it today. Tackiest thing I've ever seen in my life. And I thought the Tronorail was tacky.

You're speaking out against the company? This will refelct poorly on your performance review.

Hey, I don't think the company is perfect... and this is just one of the dumb things they do I don't agree with.

Did you snap any photos of it in action?

I'm not a Marvel superheroes fan so I can't say I really like it very well from what I've seen in pictures. I think someone else said something about the Marvel characters seeming out of place at the parks...I guess I identify them too much with Universal still at this point. The lightning bolts look sort of nice, but that's about it...

I wouldn't have an issue with it if this were advertising something truly Disney, like the new Pixar film coming out in June. Marvel is just out of place at MK. Advertise it at the Studios, at least it would fit and make sense.

Exactly... product placement is something Disney has lost touch with. Looking back Tron-o-rail was tacky but was able to fit in with the EPCOT line. This just has no place with the Magic Kingdom area. I personally feel that this is truly losing touch with the theme to the MK which is one of the few things built according to Walt's vision. The best thing I think Disney could have done is put the movie on some billboards in DHS. At least there it would kind of fit in.

The Marvel stuff is still very new and I think it will take a long time for people to loosen up the connection of Marvel to Universal. Right now it is way too soon and seeing pictures of it makes me feel like I'm in Universal.

Frankly, I think it could be confusing for some tourists who already get WDW and USO confused all the time (like those people who want to see Harry Potter at WDW's DHS, or those looking for the Tower of Terror at USO). While Marvel is over at USO's IoA, advertising for the Avengers at WDW is just putting the wrong reinforcement to that confusion...

It's Disney, they demand loyalty or blood... or both. :D

It is truly disney though, just like pixar, it was a purchased company. The reason they are pushing it in the parks, including the characters walking about soon (at least at DLR) is that they are trying to appeal to males more. The princess thing was nice to get the money out of some demographics but they have been leaving money on the table since there has not been anything that worked in their catalouge.

And I have to say, I am surprised that it's running the Express line! That's idiotic. Talk about breaking theme...

Is it bad to wish that Monorail Red needs some type of repairs while I am there so I don't have to look at this thing? :?

ETA: Wizzard, I was reading the article about this in the Sentinel just now and it did say that Disney isn't allowed to build attractions, use the characters, etc. on the East Coast because Universal retained exclusive theme park use to all of that. I would assume that was included in the deal to offset potential damage to their Orlando parks.

http://www.orlandosentinel.com/the-dail ... 5810.story
Are they allowed to have merch yet? At DLR for the past year or so (I forgot if I first saw it last halloween or the one before) you could buy Marvel toys, costumes, clothing, etc.

I wonder if the east coast's limit is for as long as they own the company or if it is after so many years Marvel will have moved out of Universal.
Articles I've read in the last couple days said that Universal keeps the East of the Mississippi rights to theme park use of the characters they already use permanently, for as long as they want them.

Apparently it's limited to characters that have their own attraction, their own ride, M&G, etc., and all characters "related" to those characters. (Example: Disney couldn't use a Spiderman character not used in the Spiderman ride because of this; they could, however, do something with Ghost Rider if they wanted to, because Universal doesn't really use him). I don't know if it was confirmed or not, but I've also seen people talking about the contract including some types of standards that the Universal rides and attractions must be kept in as the caveat to that.

I know WDW has been selling Marvel stuff for the past couple years, but I can't really remember which characters. I know I've seen Iron Man stuff. There was a part of the contract posted online that explained how the merch sales would work, but I don't remember what it said.

I know there has been some chatter among insiders (real ones, not bus drivers  ) over whether or not Universal will go after Disney for the Monorail wrap. If they do, according to what I read, it would go to an arbitrator, but they could seek an injunction putting a stop to it in the meantime. My guess is they let it go, but if it was against the contract, they should pursue it, IMO. Sets a slippery slope precedent to ignore it. Reminds me of the laws different places (such as here) have that say if part of your land/property is not maintained or used for so many years and a neighbor takes up mowing the grass, for example, down the line they can legally claim that land as their own.

I don't think there are any "Universal" characters on the wrap ~ looked like Captain America and the Hulk and a few others, so I doubt USO would go after Disney for this. I'm sure Disney legal would have thought that all through before giving the monorail wrap the green light.

(off topic, but still on point for this comment thread, aside) I know what you mean about the property line thing. I had to re-mow about an 8 foot wide swath of land along our one property line that our neighbor kept encroaching upon just so we wouldn't end up having a problem in the future  He actually buried new steel stakes like the land surveyors use to try to move the line over  and then covered them with "official" covers ~ shower drains  After he passed away years ago, we found out his medical issues were affecting his brain so his actions became a little more understandable.(okey-doke, back to your originally scheduled forum topic)

The Hulk is one of the main rides at Islands of Adventure so it may be a problem.

Haha, I know very little about US/IoA too, so you aren't alone. Apparently they have a Captain America restaurant too. I don't know about the others. I have no interest in that place (overall, I'm not really a thrill ride person), although I would like to go once in the coming years just to see the Harry Potter stuff.

Yikes, about the neighbor. It is a shame that he had health problems, but on the upside, at least he wasn't doing it out of malice.

On the main topic, someone had said the same thing over at WDW Magic, that the Disney lawyers would know better. One of their insiders essentially said you would be surprised, and that it is possible they had no clue it could be a problem. I guess we'll see what happens, if anything.

If there's an injunction, I hope it goes in place before mid-May.
