Both incidents are different. The first CM passed away after a vehicle knocked her down and she hit her head on the pavement. The incident that they are investigating now is because a ride vehicle hit the CM in the head. Why he was out in an area he wasn't supposed to be while the ride was running and how he didn't hear a vehicle coming are probably why they are investigating.Len90 wrote:Keep in mind this is the second CM to be killed on this particular attraction. The first one involved a CM who fell from a platform. Disney would later add pressure e-stop sensors to prevent things like that from happening again. This occurred back at the end of 2007.
That might also be part of the hold-up.

Again, OSHA is thorough, and will take the time they need to investigate. There's alot we're not privy to in this matter...

Another sad death at Walt Disney World yesterday. A women rear ended on the roadway near EPCOT by a Magical Express bus. Here is a link to the article

Unfortunately thousands of accidents happen in this country on a daily basis. And there are times when they happen at places where you think nothing would go wrong. God Bless the family's of all involved.

I am interested to see if they release any details as well. It seems odd that she would just stop in the travel lane. I do feel for her family as well as the bus driver, that would be a horrible thing to have happen.MmeLeota wrote:Wow! What a sad and tragic accident. That wouldn't surprise me too much, a tourist may have been lost and stops without paying attention to their surroundings. That one happened last time I was there, though no crash. If it weren't so expensive, I would say the smartest thing would be to build a separate roadway for the buses.

I think the buses do actually use some back roads that aren't available to guests, but for the most part, I think everyone shares. Just a terrible accident from the looks of the photosWizzard419 wrote:That wouldn't surprise me too much, a tourist may have been lost and stops without paying attention to their surroundings. Well your idea of lost tourist is not going to work in this situation. Reports confirming the individual who was the driver of the vehicle was a Disney Cast Member.Wizzard419 wrote:That wouldn't surprise me too much, a tourist may have been lost and stops without paying attention to their surroundings. As for separate bus roadways, I do know that some of the bus routes do take the quieter roads, but almost everything in WDW will have you on World Drive, Buena Vista Way, or EPCOT Center Drive.

Ah, looks like they are saying the bus might not have been able to see the car until the last moment due to the road. DLR has a similar section on Ball where it can get backed up and if you are speeding over the hill you can crash.

That sounds like a good idea...Cost effective.....MMMMMM probably not. But I like the idea.

Re: Another Death at Disney World
Very sad and tragic. The roads inside Walt Disney World are dangerous, because of the people that drive on them. We have been to WDW hundreds of times, and can navigate throughout the road system easily. However, so many of the tourists are first timers driving their own car or a rental, and seriously there are cars going every which way all the time!
I think part of the problem is the road signs. They are sometimes small and difficult to know which way to go. That being said, a drive is not complete without someone stopping on the side of the road, or quickly going over four lanes to get to a turnoff. My suggestion to everyone is to be careful, very very careful while driving on the WDW road system! Watch the other driver at all times, and drive slowly.

I'm not sure it wasn't the workers fault. Many people think it's OK not to use required Safety procedures while working. Their answer is always "it won't happen to me". Follow all safety procedures and you can go home in better shape than you came to work. Remember SAFETY IS ALWAYS #1 or it should be................

It's a sad thing, but people die all the time. Not all of us die at a ripe old age. However, when we die, our bodies become the grass, and the antelope eat the grass. And so we are all unfortunately connnected in the great Circle of Life.
