I guess that would depend on the ages of the children. Younger ones might make the trip a little slower paced and require more time spent in queues for character pictures and autographs, older children might require more thrill rides. This would make a very interesting study in how people of different ages experience the parks. I wonder if I could get a grant to study people behavior at Disney parks?! ;)
I think we'll experience less attractions like you described once we have kids. A lot of attractions like Dumbo, Peter Pan, etc. that almost always have long lines we end up skipping most visits now (we try to hit them on a rotating basis every 2-3 trips or so), but they're must dos with kids. Plus we never stop for characters now, so I know we'll be doing more of that. And of course, we'll have to wait longer at the thrill rides in order to do the child swap. But of course, they'll grow up quickly and I'm sure we'll be running back around like we do now after a few years.

Another interesting twist to this thread is comparing the amounts of "rides" (self explanatory) vs. "attractions" (shows) vs. "experiences" (characters, dining, etc.). Everyone has their own balance of the three that makes the trip perfect for them.
Can't wait to take my twin boys on their first trip to Walt Disney World! Planning on heading there sometime Feb-May 2014!

Got to think of it as having a plate in a buffet line - you get to decide how much rides, attractions, shows, and character experiences you want to load up on your plate. It's up to you how much of a serving you want, or if you want it all. Just got to remember to save room for dessert. :mickey:

absolutely right, and guilty as charged. don't know why i mentally twisted these attractions into rides. now that difference bumps me up to a record dozen or so in a single day, and if we toss in character photo-ops, wow, the number's boggle the mind!

A very interesting thread here. When I was a little younger we would try to hitup as Many attractions in a day as possible. We would knock out most of MK in one day and having some repeats. Over the past three years I have been extremely fortunate to have been at the world for 8 days at a time. We have taken it easier and have slowed down to take in all te surroundings. The attractions now are more of a break from walking. On a MK EMH night we will still have a large attractions ridden but if we hit 30 it would be a lot.

I know not everyone has the pleasure of doing this..but since I live 40 minutes from WDW..I like to go to the parks and not ride any rides...I like to walk around..sit on a bench and people watch...hopefully I can count more smiling faces than non...but I have seen some pretty interesting things by just taking a second and relaxing for a few moments.

I would love to live close enough to visit the parks and just take in the atmosphere, sights, sounds and smells every so often. That sounds very relaxing!

More of a "smell the roses" kind-of-person than a "go-go-go" kind-of-person (that would fit another topic thread around here somewhere)...

When I was moving back to OKC from Tampa my brother and his son came in to town to help me load up the truck and move back. I decided to head over to Disney for one day while they were in town and we successfully hit up all the parks and did all the major rides in one day. We played the fastpass system like its nobody's business. It was beautiful!

I think our record is somewhere in the high 20s in off peak season. Back in February at the Magic Kingdom I was able to hit all three mountains and pirates in 35 min, I was pretty proud of that.

Even when I lived an hour away I still enjoyed the rides and attractions. I'm not sure if I would enjoy just sitting there. Thats also my personality kicking in though.

That's how I am...I just have a go, go, go mentality. I do wish I lived closer so I could go and sit and record background music from the different lands. And I might enjoy being able to sit and people watch or take the time to watch the street performances if I had more time to be at the parks.

I don't usually cram when I go to WDW... I tend to be more relaxed. I'm not out to do it all in one day...

Though there was a trip when we got to MK for morning EMH and had all of Fantasyland done within an hour. Which is a record for us and for Fantasyland.

Experiencing all of Fantasyland in an hour would be an amazing accomplishment  :D
