I blame POR for getting me hooked on staying on-property. We stayed there in 2005 or so and i've never looked back since. It has such charm and its so big and my kids love the main pool. The only reason I don't stay there all the time is $$$.
Love, Love Love Love it!!!
Last time I booked a place at ASMo and checked darn near every day for some sort of upgrade deal It finally came, but I never told the family, They were in the dark until I made that right hand turn and the guard asked: Do you have a reservation?
I can imagine a honeymoon there would be incredible!!

We'll be staying in the Magnolia Bend mansions and I can't wait! All the dreariness of Minnesota has made me ready for some warm (I hope!) Florida sunshine!
Drop another coin in slot and I will tell you more.

One thing I recommend checking out when you stay at POR is BOB JACKSON! He's the piano guy that plays in the bar area. His act is just wonderful, and really makes the Disney Magic!

I know this is probably your first flight...and it's mine too...ha, ha

This is the resort that got us hooked on staying on property, since we stayed at POFQ we have stayed at CS, All Star Sports, and POP.
We will be going "home" in April to stay at POFQ, hands down our favorite resort.

POR is definitely our home resort as well. Have stayed some nights at Contemporary, and will be attempting POP (mainly for cost) in a few weeks. So far, the Magnolia Bend mansions are definitely our favorite resort area in WDW.

I definitely second this... We saw him last week and he puts on a great show. He has a few 15 minute breaks but mostly he goes from 8:30 until midnight without taking many breaths. We went back Friday and Saturday but he must have had something else going on as there was another group called the Bodacious Boys and they were no where near as entertaining as Bob.

I stayed at PO-FQ last fall and it was quite nice. My mom stayed at PO-RS and liked it too. From another thread on this board there is a review of moderates and many people like the PO resorts the best.
No one's gloomy or complaining while the flatware's entertaining.

You know, the band that plays nightly over at POFQ isn't half-bad either. Both resorts have good music.

happysneakers wrote:Hey all. I'm relatively new to the forums, first topic, but the family and I are going to Port Orleans Riverside in November. This is definitely not our first trip to WDW but first time to this hotel. I just wanted to ask, has anybody gone and if so what is it like? Is there anything we must see there? I just wanted to get a general gauge on the hotel, Thanks!
My family pretty much always stays at POR. We LOVE it! Absolutely gorgeous resort, lovely landscaping... rooms are a bit smallish though. Excellent dining options at Riverside Mill (the QSR) and Boatwright's (TSR).
The BEST PART- the boat ride to DTD! My family loves that.

You've picked the best of the moderate hotels in my opinion. I try to take my Mom to the Flower and Garden Show every year and this is our preferred resort. I'm sure you've heard by now the two different sides at Riverside....Aligator Bayou and Magnolia Bend. We always try to request (and ususally get) Magnolia Bend. These are the stately Antebellum buildings. The rooms themselves I find are very "feminine." They have flowers and soft colors in the rooms. The Aligator Bayou section is more "masculine" with darker woods and the appearance of logs. Though, don't get me wrong, either side is just fine...it's a matter of preference. I'm sure you can find pictures on line. We love this resort. The food court is nice, too. I don't use the transportation so I'm not sure about the buses but there's a nice boat that runs in the afternoons that will take you to Downtown Disney. It's a pretty ride.

Add wdwparksgal and I to the list of people who love Riverside.

It's just so serene and beautiful. We love staying in the mansions, especially 3rd floor of Parterre if we can get it.

POR is the resort we would like to try and stay at whenever we make our trip out to WDW. We're hoping to maybe go during the Flower & Garden festival/SWW (if they are going to happen) next year...we'll have to wait and see.

That would be great, Mme. L.

Although I'd definitely think about POFQ over POR. POR is very big with lots of bus stops. POFQ is much more romantic.

Thanks for the tip! We might just do that...I've seen more pics of POR than POFQ, but I would imagine either one would be fine with us...
