Len:

I agree with you on the tweeters and facebook posters - honestly, I never understood that obsession (hence, the rolling eyes emoticon in my prior post).

Depending upon your hotel, the conceirge is not always open (especially due to bad economy and budget cuts), so if you get back from the parks late there may not be one there until the next morning. And if the hotel has a business center, it will probably close at 6 or 7 PM. Therefore, I bring a laptop, but it stays in the hotel room.

And as for pets, I'm guessing you don't have one or had one, but some people get really attached to their pets like they're members of the family. Some times, in order not to feel guilty about leaving a pet behind, just seeing they're okay is enough to assuage any guilt about leaving the pet behind. I have two married friends that did this with their 18+ year old cat.

And for family emergencies, I would not rely on any one hopefully relaying such thing hours later when I got back to my hotel room. I was in a meeting at work for two hours once and away from my office phone when that happened and missed one such family emergency. Since then, I now own a cellphone (I had always resisted getting one as I hate seeing people talk on the things all time - in movies, in theme-park rides, and especially while driving!) to ensure I never miss another such emergency if, god forbids, it ever happens again. Rely on somebody to remember to give me that message? Nooo, I don't think so...

And - wow! - thanks for making me think I'm not the only paranoid camera person out there! I back up my pictures from my camera every single night on a trip!!! It doesn't take that long, you're right, but you feel so much safer for doing it!!!

It's not that I am paranoid, well maybe so now. However, I lost a lot of pictures in 2006 from a memory stick failure. Now, I bring a computer and a spare hard drive. Why the spare hard drive? It is the back-up for my back-up!

As for Wifi information, this is the best site that I know of with up to date information about disney wireless internet access. http://www.wdwinfo.com/wdwinfo/Resorts/wireless.htm

Let's see, Len, you got a back-up for your back-up to your camera's memory stick - and you think you're "maybe" paranoid? Dude, you're more paranoid about your camera than I am!

Personally, I got a Verizon modem, so I don't look for Wifi spots. It works everywhere I've been in Florida and Georgia.

Thanks, Len!!!

Now that you planted that little gem of an idea in my brain, I can't get it out. Now I'm thinking of doing the same thing in December!

I personally like to stay disconnected while on vacation, but do still carry a cell phone in case of emergencies. On our last trip, we decided to text when we split up so we can better monitor when/where to meet back up. I am personally conflicted with this one. One, I liked being able to be kept up to date with where the rest of my travel party was and if our projected meet up time was being pushed back it was good to be informed, but on the other hand, DID NOT like the fact of looking at my phone while on vacation. I have ablackberry for work and since I was looking for texts, I could also see work emails which believe me was not what I wanted when on vacation!

Also, this just came out this week - Disney World just released a mobile version of their website that has current attraction wait times, fastpass availability...etc. I guess it's similar to the iphone app but for non-iphone people. Doesn't give the actual wait times but categorizes as "see now", "moderate" or "high demand".

Maybe they should just add Attraction info boards all over the park, and maybe even the hotels, so that you don't even have to leave your room!

That would be nice, but if we stay in our rooms, how do we ride the rides?? :?

I have a cell phone which only my family, friends and kennels has the number if there should ever be an emergency I could be reached at any time. I dont use the internet on my phone either. Dont need WiFi or internet when on vacation. I will always find a way to get my boarding pass either at Magical Express or front desk. Where there's a will there's a way :pluto: :mickey3:

I'm of the "when-I'm-on-vacation-don't-bother-me" persuasion. I have my iPhone for emergencies and for downtime on the buses, so I don't need to drag the laptop with me everywhere. That's it. We do bring our laptop to back up pictures (you're not paranoid, Len) and other stuff we might want to do in our room at night, but that's it. I agree that those chronic Facebook-ers and Tweeters are either just plain self-obsessed narcissists, or in some other way non-socially-well-adjusted. It just makes me shake my head in disgust to see some teen or tween strolling through the park texting non-stop, totally oblivious to everything going on around them. Makes me want to grab them and shake them: "...what the heck's wrong with you!"

Okay, calming down now...... (breathe, breathe....  )

Mousekedude: sometimes I think you and Jacca5660 may need to get your blood pressure checked.

I just like to vent a little, and then I'm just fine.

Actually, WDW is currently in the process of adding WiFi to the majority of the public rooms at the resorts...but even so, I agree with what Spodie wrote...I am connected at home 24/7, but when I'm at the World, it's just not that important. :mickey:
Really? Public Restrooms?

I would imagine they see WiFi as a consistent risk simply due to security. I mean, it's easier to remind people that they're on vacation than risk having their vacation spoiled with a breach of their security. I'm not saying Disney wouldn't work hard to secure their networks and track attackers but even I can ARP, port, or DHCP poison through most setups.

I agree...I don't understand the whole twitter/FB thing. I do have a twitter account, but I mainly follow Disney related stuff. The only reason I even signed up was to follow one of the Subsonic meets that I couldn't be at and I was living vicariously through those able to make it. Aside from that, I check it to see what news and stuff is there and occasionally reply to something, but I just don't get it.

I see my 12 y/o niece so involved like that and I feel the same way....what's the matter with you!?!?!?!?!

Ok, I'm done...thank you for letting me vent. :) (someone's got to take mousekedude's place while he's whooping it up in WDW ;) )

Actually, of the two, I thought Jacca5660 was the one who vented more. BTW where is Jacca5660 lately? I haven't seen him venting on here lately? Did someone give him tranquilizers?
