Don't expect anything like what they did for Haunted Mansion. That would be placing your expectations for a mediocre rehab very high. I believe the queue and exit queue are getting the brunt of the rehab.
Aren't they re-doing the entire track like at DLR? Also, I really hope they don't take out the awesome ambient music in the queue i.e. Star Tunnel and whatever the name of the 3rd Tunnel is...

Oh No! I'm all for the old school classics. Most of these changes will make me very sad :( I have also heard that they were coming, but still. WDW's track record for total refurbs is poor and that's putting it politely. Look at Figment, World of Motion, Spaceship Earth, and the Tiki Room, just to name a few. I was kinda hoping this ride would become a possible historical landmark type thing, being its the first built Space Mountain, the way I hope Tiki Room, Small World and Carousel of Progress will remain for DL. I do realize there's a difference, but still. Now, I'm not for saving everything, but I really felt that Space Mountain was the only unique one to keep for the history of WDW.

Not redoing it, just replacing old metal framework with new metal.

They don't have to keep the same exact music. They might update the queue music or re-master the audio with better speakers (my hopes!!). As long as they don't totally redo the queue music, I'm happy!!!

I'd be happy with a re-master of the audio, kinda like HM! That would be awesome! 8-)

Yeah I also agree. I would be so mad if they change any of the queue music. It is one of my favorites.
I know this is probably your first flight...and it's mine too...ha, ha

Rain upon that planet Earth. And they rain ... and rain ... and rain. The deluge.

I was kinda hoping when Space Mountain was down for its refurb in DL, they were going to switch to single rider cars...but no, they didn't...oh well

How long has it been down in WDW?

It's been down since April 19th. I was fortunate enough to take the final ride before it officially closed at a little after midnight on the 19th. It was sad when we all got off because that was it- no more rides till November 21st. :(

7 months is a long time, be grateful it's not 2 years like DL...I doubt they are going to change it too much. Even with the 2 year refurb, they replaced the track (in the same layout, which is fine with me), added the new audio track and the new visual effects. I highly doubt they would be able to completely dismantle and rebuild the entire track in 7 months.

But I can't wait to hear reports from everyone on what they did change!

I know, I'd die if it were 2 years! I will likely be back at Christmas and that will be the first thing I do- ride Space!!

I just hope that it opens on time (wishful thinking probably...). I'm starting to get withdrawal symptoms (thankfully the Star Tunnel stream keeps it in check, but it is wearing thin)!!!
