Very sad news. I was hoping they would be around this July.

There is no set date and July is Summer time. Ya never know. Over the next couple of months, I'll update this thread with sale news... if anyone wants anything... J/K.

Virgin offloaded all their music stores in the UK to a management buy-out. They rebranded themselves ZAVVI. Unfortunately, before Christmas, Zavvi went into administration and all their stores have closed. They were struggling for a while, but when their supplier, Woolworths went bust, it was the last straw for them.

Sadly, I wouldn't be surprised if the DTD store closed, but as many people have said, they are overpriced.

here's the news article from the Orlando Business Journal:

http://www.bizjournals.com/orlando/stor ... a=from_rss

there's nothing on the US Virgin Mega site about the closures, but they DO seem a bit full of themselves:

Does anyone know what they would do with this large building? It'd be pretty hard to just blow up in that area, and I have no idea what could replace it.

I don't know, but I hope they come up with something good. It'll look terrible if it just sits empty. Or turns into a humongous tshirt store.

Wait, isn't it attatched to Disney Quest?

If it does share a wall like I think it does, then would they expand DQ??

I think they share a wall, but considering they've threatened to close Disney Quest repeatedly over the years too, I dunno if they'd be in a hurry to expand it now. Not a bad idea, though.

Technically, they don't touch, though, they do share an alleyway:

Image

you can see Virgin on the left, DisneyQuest on the right, and Cirque du Soleil on the far right (kept that in so you can tell size of each building)

It's just sad that such a huge building will probably sit there. Are there any other chain stores that has the money to take over that building?

I can't imagine any other chain wanting a space that big, having enough money for it aside. Coming soon to DTD ... Costco. Oooh, Best Buy would be cool. World's Biggest Starbucks.

My husband actually mentioned a Best Buy as well, but unless they were willing to have a large Disney section, I doubt they would want it. It is a primo location for sure, but I am thinking the logistics of the two companies, with rights and profits and space and all that is probably just too crazy.

But who knows? Disney would be fools to let it stay empty long.. or at all. I know they know that.

Mmhmm. I have to imagine they've already got someone in mind and have approached them. Even if they might be willing to leave it dark and put up with the bad show, I don't think they'll be as happy to put up with losing the revenue. Seems like that would inspire them to act.
