I loved Eo as a kid and would also get scared. I remember that asteroid at the beginning and thinking I could grab it. Maybe it was because I was so young or maybe because I now wear glasses but the 3d effects in my memory of Eo were so much better than other 3d effects.
Hooter, for the record, was a major screw up and got what he deserved. If some freaky, fat green alien elephant dude almost got me butchered or blasted at every turn in deep space I'd be pretty cranky with him too.
