I actually remember reading that parents complained about the end of the ride, in which you wind up in Hell. I heard that it was this that drove Mr. Toad's Wild Ride into closing.Captain Schnemo wrote:I would guess that it was more important that the kids wouldn't want to buy Mr. Toad merchandise (not that Disney actually offered any, mind you).Esmeralda wrote:Our guide said it was because when they asked guests the names of the other characters from Mr. Toad, they couldn't name them so Disney thought it was out of date.
The thing that killed the Toad was the size of the attraction, which was big enough to shoehorn in both a ride and shop. Pooh is such a cash cow for Disney that the ride was inevitable, but there's no excuse for trashing Toad. Especially when they completely paved over 20,000 Leagues a short while later.
Mr. Toad's Wild Ride, does it still exist in California?

So cool. Thanks for the link!krich07 wrote:For those of you who didn't know, there's a website where someone is recreating the ride with computer animation. It's not done yet, but the progress is pretty cool. Check it out. http://virtual-toad.com/

He's been working on it (not full-time) for a couple of years. The nice thing is that once he finishes, it'll be preserved forever. The sad thing is that it takes someone from outside the company to respect the attractions enough to work on this kind of thing.Dr. Ravenscroft wrote:I wonder how long that takes to do?
There's no way this is true, otherwise it'd be gone from Disneyland. I'm sure it didn't help Toad's case or anything, but that wasn't the primary motivating factor. It was all about Pooh and profits.DIAC1987 wrote:I actually remember reading that parents complained about the end of the ride, in which you wind up in Hell. They, as in Disney, should hire him to do that for a lot of the rides. they could add that to the website. You know how many people would be all over that site! Think of the ad revenue!!! But of course that would take a long time and A TON of patience.
