As for it being in the right or wrong place, who cares as long as it is entertaining
That statement goes against everything Walt believed in. That's like saying, "Why don't we just switch up all the mountains while we're at it. It doesn't matter, as long as they're entertaining."

Disney isn't about just making great attractions and sticking them where ever there's room. What made Disney so great in the first place is creating entire immersive experiences around the attractions following a strict theme.

I had checked this out a while back and forgot to state my opinion. Oh well, better late than never right? Right?

I didn't expect much from it either but came out entertained. It wasn't a great attraction and not something I'd go out of my way for but I'd recommend everyone seeing it at least once.

But it does irk me that it is in Tomorrow land. I honestly believe it should be in Fantasyland. It doesn't fit there too well either but much better than tomorrow land. I mean, lots of kids fantasize of having a big monster as a friend... when they are not scared of them under the beds right?

Cheshire,
You really seem to be unhappy in all of your posts lately. I'm sorry that you don't like so many of the new rides/ shows in WDW. As unhappy as you are with all of Walt Disney World, are there any rides/ shows/ parks that you still enjoy? Do you get any pleasure from any of the areas at WDW?

Cartoonland what?! Oh, we're talking about the comedy show. I'm so with CC on this. I can't get over the fact how Stitch, Comedy Show, and Buzz don't fit. It's not what I think the future holds. I think buzz is a good ride but I'm sick of cartoons being in the future.

As far as the comedy club, I haven't been on it yet. Of course, next visit, I'll have to see it because I need to see mostly anything new, but if they replaced it before my next visit I wouldn't be disappointed at all. Now, Alien Encounter, I'm sooo bummed my friends never got to see that. Yes, it was too scary for Disney but the concept is fantastic. I think Disney should have taken that to a different level. Heck, make it more comedy like Stitch, but get rid of the cartoon aspect. Honestly, Disney needs to look hard at attractions like Mission to Mars and Adventures through Innerspace and see how they could recreate something like those again but with today's technology. I'm sure they could do something amazing. Poops, I got off topic.

Maybe I should watch a youtube video of Monsters Comedy so I can know what I'm not missing.

Torylovesdisney, did you love it yourself, or was it because you enjoyed watching it with your children?

uh-oh... I just got the shnemo spiel

I'm very passionate about Disney and I don't like the direction it's going. There are very few areas and attractions I find enjoyable anymore. (In fact this summer will be my last WDW trip for a long time... although I do hope to get to DL soon). Most of what I loved about Disney in the first place is now gone or altered. Now they're going a step further and taking away the atmosphere of the park in general. It's not showing any signs of getting better either.

I'm noticing how I'm becoming more and more extreme on my Disney viewpoints, but that comment made earlier is by no means one of those nit-picky things. Placing attractions anywhere as long as they're entertainaing goes against the very base of what Disney was built on. (In fact it basically summarizes what the current Disney management is doing now anyway). While sometimes, I may be nit-picking things, I'm sure even the most casual Disney fan will agree with me on this one.

One word to wrap this up: Utilidor. These show the great lenghths Disney used to go to to preserve a theme. They were built under the Magic Kingdom so that no themes would clash with another and nothing from the real world could remove a guest from the atmosphere of the park. BUT, most importantly of all, so that no cowboy would ever be seen in Tomorrowland  . That's how much Disney used to care about theming. A monster in Tomorrowland is no different than a cowboy.

Welcome to my world.

It's no party, but on the plus side we have lots of awesome steampunk tech and submarines with steel shark tooth mohawks.

Which is, y'know, pretty cool.

On the surface there is hunger and fear. Men still exercise unjust laws. They fight, tear one another to pieces. A mere few feet beneath the waves their reign ceases, their evil drowns. Here on the ocean floor is the only independence.

Wow, now that is sweet looking! I did not know that there was a 20k Leagues ride still in existence.

Sorry to go off on a tangent, but...

Nemo gets so much respect at Tokyo DisneySea, it makes me want to cry.

They've even got Vulcania, his secret base, which features a restaurant in the lava tubes of a volcano. Which also erupts.

Also the food is cooked with Nemo Power:

It's really worth it to check out what's going on at TDS. It puts recent changes at the US parks into perspective.

OK, back to our regularly scheduled thread...

Schnemo, now I'm really depressed. The chances of mine making a trip to Tokyo in this lifetime are slim and none. I wish the stateside parks could get some love like this.

Kind of shows where the typical U.S. Disney tourists' priorities are. I love WDW but from the looks of what is going on at TDS it would appear that we are "missing the boat", pun intended I suppose.

Actually, this would be missing the boat...

Sorry to continue to derail the thread, but I couldn't pass up a cheap gag, and another look at Vulcania...

And as soon as imageshack stops barfing, I'll thumbnail the previous images so they don't glut up the thread.

Yes, very well said. I really don't know what goes on in the heads of people in charge of Disney now. And they (Disney and Imagineers) get upset that we think they aren't doing a good enough job. darn right they aren't!

I agree. I had NO idea the extent to which TDS has been developed.
