You guys are very blessed. We are haveing home invasions down here. They are killing everyone, even when the victims cooperated. If you are not prepared to kill, be prepared to die. The police can't prevent crime, unless they are tiped off, or stumble across a crime in progress. The police do a great job, and I have the greatest respect for them, but your life and the lives of your loved ones depends on you.

It's funny that you metion that, I remember hearing a joke about how the only reason we have the right to bear firearms was to protect ourselves from the British during the Revolution and that it really shouldn't apply today.
It's actually not a joke. The actual wording in the US Constitution, Second Amendment (part of the Bill Of Rights) goes a little something like this:
Amendment II

A well regulated militia, being necessary to the security of a free state, the right of the people to keep and bear arms, shall not be infringed.
Note the phrase "well regulated militia, being necessary to the security of a free state". I don't think that the average person is part of a well regulated militia, and most people are not carrying guns for the security of a free state. If you want to see what the Amendments to the Constitution what they actually say (how they're written, see this link

I'm kinda shocked that this woman hasn't been charged by the Federal government for carrying a concealed weapon without a permit. I can see her carrying a pair of scissors in her purse (depending on the size of them), and can kinda see a knife (once again the size). But a loaded handgun...? I don't think so.

I was there when this happened. We were driving back from MGM to the Contemporary and were stopped by security on the road twice. They stopped us to ask where we were going etc. It was a little weird as we didn't know what was going on, but it was very comforting to see so much security! We really don't realize how safe Disney is until you have a need for the security! On our trip we also saw the groups of students gathering in the MK that were causing some commotion at the end of the night when over 100 of them gathered and began getting very rowdy. Security was very present, and I managed to spot the "under-cover" security as well. They have the best security!! Hats off to them!

Just to let you know, I live in Oklahoma, grew up in Kansas, and have been working a lot in Texas. In those three states I can tell you that I know some people that have guns, but they all use them for hunting or for sport shooting. I don't know anyone that has a handgun for their own protection.

my dad forgot to take his swiss army knife off before a flight once and was practically mauled by airport security.

so i can see why it would be easy to forget something like that... but a gun??

also, aside from the military and law enforcement, not very many people have guns for personal protection. especially 63 year old women.

The true philosophy behind the Second Amendment was to expand Checks and Balances beyond the government and to the people. (i.e. if the "common" people have the ability to revolt, then that should be enough to deter tyranny in government.) Remember, the Constitution was written by revolutionaries.

Of course, now I guess there will be Audio-Animatronic secret service agents all over the Hall of Presidents.

Yes, it does seem that the bag checks are a good thing. Wonder when they will find it necessary to install metal detectors. Seems like it will take away from the Magic, though.

Six Flags Over Texas has had metal detectors for many years now. I suppose the other Six Flags parks do as well. 'twould be sad if Disney had to install them, too. Sadly, there are those in the world that cannot stand for anyone to have a magical family experience.

How true that is! It also shows how we need to be careful with people that are emotionally on the edge - you never know what they are packing!

Yes, as long as a potential troublemaker is stupid enough to stand in a huge line, watching everyone in front of them get searched and makes no attempt to disguise their weapon(s), the bag check makes all Disney parks impervious to shenanigans. Brilliant!

That's scary. I can see where the scissors might come in handy, but what about the rest?
