I'm hoping to be there around the Christmas holidays as well. I hope they update it to the point where they can still keep educational attractions, but not to the point where they shove it into your face where it's boring. I think that was one of the things that killed if for some people.
That, and the fact that the place DID seem like it was falling apart. Almost like a sad little fun house at a carnival.

UPDATE
wdwmagic.com is posting pics of the removal of the double helix .....
http://wdwmagic.com/general_epcot_news.htm
I just find this news really sad. Now WOL was never my favorite pavilion, but it was nice to walk thru and play with the exhibits. I guess I liked it, and feel bad cause it was like the underdog pavillion, ie the Charlie Brown of Epcot. I just think it deserves better then this. Not right that Disney let the pavilion slow fade to nothing. I am hoping they have plans for the pavilion, and not a corporate picnic area.
alas its a sad day....

I was there during that time and it was rather pitiful. I miss The Making of Me. I thought that show was really well done. And I miss the thing where you try to hit the ball -- something about Goofy if I remember. I have great video of my kids at ages 4 and 6 there. But I did get to see Cranium Command again and that was great!AKLRULZ wrote:Last Christmas they re-opened it, too. Basically desserted, and in pitiful condition. We thought we'd seen its last days.
Anyone know why it's closed? Just not enough traffic?

Like, they're taxe differently if its only use for private use versus public access? I don't get it. It certainly won't be used ever again as WoL, I don't think they're going to cut down and put up signage each year.
I only hope it gets a new attraction after Food and Wine is done with it.

This is really sad. You'd think a pavilion focusing on health/wellness/medical technology etc. could find a champion among the HMOs, medical technology and big pharm companies that rake in billions of dollars in profit each year. If nothing else, Disney should have made more of an effort to save it. What could be more essential to the mission of EPCOT than man's quest to learn more about himself? It's true that the execution of WOL could have been better, but Disney should have reworked it instead of giving up on it.rdeacon wrote:UPDATE

I guess it's a good thing that Dr. Ravenscroft and I got pictures of the Double Helix and outdoor signage when we went this past December.

i just saw this thread and had to comment evne though it hasnt been posted ina while. Last december my fiance and I went on Body Wars for the last time. They told us it was closing any day after we were there, definetly by New Years that year. It was her first time on and she hated it. We were in the last row and she got whiplash. It was horrible. I do remember growning up when that place was always packed! I loved getting healthy smoothies there and Coaches Corner.

yeah, it was on SAD shape when we were there last December. (I hate myself already for saying this, but) I'd rather see that area closed down and something new built than what that pavillion has become in recent years...

They are supposed to be using the space for the food and wine festival...
Hopefully some one in the SR community is going during that time and we can get pics.
And I agree with js3901, last time I was in there it was really sad, so it is better off that they closed it.

Fortunately or unfortunately the pictures don't show you all of the dust and cobwebs on everything in the pavilion. It really is sad how they treat that place, like jbvenn, said:

I find it really sad that they're keeping up the signs for (at least) Body Wars as well as the inside maps which show everything that used to be open.
