Re: 2012 WDW Marathon Weekend
Thanks for the cheers Sleepy90!!! I did need them b/c my mom and B-dude were stuck on the resort bus and never made it to the finish to cheer for us. It was sad
. But, I made it!!!! I was not totally pain free, but I made it. 2:22:20. I will post pics when I upload them! It was an awesome feeling to cross the finish after all the obstacles I hurdled before this race. I didn't PR, but I finished darn it! That medal never looked so sweet!!!! I'm calling this one my personal victory and the Most Magical 13.1 I ran with my dad. CONGRATS to all that ran and conquered, whatever event you did!!! You are awesome!!!

Whenever we saw people wearing their bling, we congratulated them! It's definitely an amazing feat for anyone!

It sounds like you had a great time - especially for running with injuries! I hope you'll share a picture of you and your dad with your bling

I'm sure she will. She has some really great ones. The thing I noticed when I saw them is that of all the people in each shot, she was the only one smiling!Amy wrote:... I hope you'll share a picture of you and your dad with your bling
For everyone else who was posting encouragement on those days, thank you, and sorry I'm so late acknowledging it. I almost forgot about this thread, and have been super busy since getting back. Mouseoholic and I did complete our 5K (nothing compared to the half and the full, but great personal victories for us). I even managed a pretty decent time considering my health and injury issues prior to the trip. So I'm happy, and I feel motivated to continue training. Hopefully some day I can run a longer race. To all my fellow couch potatoes everywhere, I say: "if I can do it, YOU can do it!"

Re: 2012 WDW Marathon Weekend
If you can run 6 miles...you can finish a Half Marathon. That is how I have always been. I ran two Half Marathons and did not train at all before either...and was able to pretty much run both races in their entirety...with minimal walking. I do not recommend it...because the training is more for being able to recover effectively afterward more than it is running the race.Mousekedude wrote:I'm sure she will. I really am hoping I can run in the 2013 or perhaps 2014 WDW Half or Full Marathon. It's a double-edged sword. DW is a teacher...which has always kept her from going down to WDW for the races...so my races I did there were with friends and my parents...without DW. Now that we're having a baby, she will stop teaching, thus freeing her up for vacation anytime. That's the upside. The downside is that her not working cuts into the finances, making it that much more difficult to take big vacations like WDW. We figure we can save up and take a quick trip down there in the next year or two...and then take our DS once he's old enough. Really hoping I can run another Disney race though...that bling is awesome!

Congratulations! Being a parent is the BEST thing, no holds barred. Once your DS is born, you could put him in a jogging stroller and train together (once she's cleared to do so by the doc, of course!) and then all 3 of you make the trip! And then if you could convince one or both sets of grandparents to join you...theBIGyowski wrote:If you can run 6 miles...you can finish a Half Marathon. That is how I have always been. DW's dad is over in Afghanistan right now. We're hoping that we can convince her parents to take a WDW trip in 2013 once he's back and settled in...and our DS is old enough to leave with my parents. It would make the trip much more affordable for us because of (hopefully) military specials and possibly staying at Shades of Green...which I have stayed at in the past and loved. There's also my parents...who have been RCI members for almost 30 years...and we could transfer their vacation week to a DVC resort if we wanted...so another affordable WDW vacation option. We may save that trip for when our DS is 3 or 4 years old though and is old enough to walk around some.
I'm like you...can plan Disney trips all day...every day. I'm helping a good friend of mine now plan a family vacation and I'm having a blast.

We were running on the opposite side and I totally crossed over to go by the Mouse. My dad said "Margaret, where are you going?!" LOL.

Proof that you never completely grow up...you see Mickey and have to run to him
Awesome pics Boilerbabe! I really love how you and your dad crossed the finish line hand in hand! What an amazing relationship you two must have! I'm also loving the pic with Doanld...not to mention your new avatar.

Thanks Amy and Mmeleota!!! No, I never have grown out of Mickey!!!
And yes, I'm blessed to have a good relationship with my parent's. It was always the 3 of us, we were a good trio, now we have B-dude in the mix too!

We have that in common - that "trio" mentality. It was always "the three of us" too! (though I can't say I've always had the best relationship with my mom...but that's completely different now.boilerbabe wrote:Thanks Amy and Mmeleota!!!
