Which means he knows absolutely nothing more than you or I do about it. Whether he has "sources" within Disney or not, they won't tell him anything that's not been publicly announced - they'd be (at least) risking their jobs if they did.Cardinals314 wrote:Jason Garcia is the primary Orlando Sentinel theme park business reporter. He largely focuses on Disney in his reporting. He has a number of sources tied with Disneydstrawn9889 wrote:again, who is he in relation to WDW?
All that Disney have so far said about the Avatar thing is that it's coming. Nothing else has been announced, thus nothing else you read about what's going on with it should be considered to be true.
And, indeed, this thread. The link in the first post of this thread is to an article claiming that a Star Wars in DHS is official and happening. It isn't. If you want to claim it is, show us an official source for the information. Saying "multiple sources have told us" is as good as saying "my friend's sister's cousin's nephew's dog overheard this in the car park at Epcot". It means absolutely nothing at all. Yes, it might happen in the future, but it also might not. Disney haven't announced it. Therefore, as of right now, it's not true.
Just because a website or reporter focuses on reporting Disney things, doesn't mean they're magically right about everything or that they know anything about what's going on inside Disney. It doesn't matter who the reporter is, or how "well connected" they are, if it hasn't been announced by Disney themselves, it's completely untrue. That's all there is to it.
It's always the same, and it's always really annoying. People take these rumours as fact, and then people get annoyed when it turns out to be wrong later down the line. We had a bit of a discussion in chat about this the other night, actually.
Can we please stop reporting everything we read on the internet as a fact and making new threads for every little rumour that pops up? It just really doesn't help anything at all, it's really annoying, and it just serves to get people's hopes up for things that aren't guaranteed to ever happen (and in most cases, never will).
TL;DR: Unless Disney have announced it, it's not true. No exceptions. As of right now, Avatar has no set date of arrival, and Star Wars land isn't a thing.
OK, I'm done ranting now. As you were.
Andy.
Now in need of a cup of tea.
It's probably worth pointing out that the above is me talking as myself, not me talking as an SSR admin.

Like I said, shareholders would revolt if a major project was announced without their knowledge.
They did drop a teaser for it the convention in the form of crates labeled "Orange Harvest", but they have teased before and then cancelled projects.

Re: Disney Hollywood Studios Expansion Rumored
Star Wars related things at a Disney convention shortly after Disney bought the company that owns Star Wars? Doesn't have to mean anything at all to do with the parks. It could just be a "look what we've got". Could be related to the fact they recently completed work on Star Tours 2 (with the Japanese version having launched in May). Could mean absolutely nothing at all.Wizzard419 wrote:Like I said, shareholders would revolt if a major project was announced without their knowledge.

As I said, nothing's been announced. Therefore nothing's happening or confirmed. When Disney announce something, then we can start getting excited. Until then, it's just pure rumour and speculation.

Re: Disney Hollywood Studios Expansion Rumored
Well this is a thread focusing on the "rumored" expansion so I think talking about it is fine. A new thread can start, if needed, once it's confirmed.

Re: Disney Hollywood Studios Expansion Rumored
Actually, when this thread was started, it was started as stating the expansion as a fact. The only reason it now has "rumoured" in the title is because a moderator changed the title. That was entirely my point. I've absolutely nothing against people talking about rumours, as long as the thread is marked as such.Cardinals314 wrote:Well this is a thread focusing on the "rumored" expansion so I think talking about it is fine. What I was referring to in my long post above are the large number of posts and threads that are claiming as fact things that have no place being marked as fact. Take the first post in this thread, for instance:
There's not a shred of verifiable truth in that article, yet the thread was created pointing it out as an announcement. There was no announcement. This kind of thing has been rumoured for years.cy1229 wrote:I'm almost completely excited about this announcement. The only thing I'm really depressed about is the possible loss of Muppet Theater.
Then, later in the thread, there's this:
Again, as I said earlier, just because he reports on Disney things means absolutely nothing. He knows nothing more than your or I about this. Disney have announced nothing of the sort. Therefore, there's not a shred of truth to this until such a delay is announced.Cardinals314 wrote:Jason Garcia is the primary Orlando Sentinel theme park business reporter. He largely focuses on Disney in his reporting. He has a number of sources tied with Disneydstrawn9889 wrote:again, who is he in relation to WDW?Cardinals314 wrote:Jason Garcia is now reporting that the Avatar area won't open until at least 2017.
This, also from yourself, is stated as fact:
As I said earlier, saying you found something from "sources" means absolutely nothing. If you really did speak to someone inside Disney, they wouldn't be telling you anything of the sort. They'd be (at the least) putting themselves up for termination if they did. If you can't provide a verifiable source, don't state it as a fact.Cardinals314 wrote:I have gotten news from some inside sources that Disney has ordered all departments to stop using the hat as the park icon in any/all materials.
I could go on, there's a lot more examples of this around in a lot of recent threads. All I'm trying to say is that if you can't provide a verifiable source for something, don't report it in the forum as if it's absolute fact. It isn't fact until it's been announced by Disney. Saying you heard it from a "source within Disney" is absolutely meaningless for the reasons above (1, it's not verifiable and 2, a "source within Disney" wouldn't tell you these things anyway).
TL;DR: Don't believe everything you read on the internet or hear from "sources". If you can't find a verifiable source (ie, Disney announcement), don't take it as fact, and certainly don't post it to a forum without pointing out that it's just speculation.
For the sake of clarity, I'm going to point out again that this is my opinion, not me speaking as an SSR admin.

That is what a teaser is... a small, mostly meaningless particle. It might be new content for Star Tours, it might be a new space, it might content for something else, but either way it is something they can't talk about yet.
The other thing, while it is true they only just acquired Lucasarts, it doesn't mean they had not been developing projects since before the talks began. While money is nice, Lucasarts are massive sticklers for keeping canon and they most likely wanted to see some ideas for what WDC could do with the franchises, even if they were not final drafts.

I would like to express my absolute, and sincere, deepest apologies for having the gall to think a Disney blog was an official announcement. Heaven forbid that I should make a mistake and start all of this nonsensical speculation rolling.

Re: Disney Hollywood Studios Expansion Rumored
This just in...I heard a Rumor that The Disney Corporation was looking to make money, and lots of it! They make rides, we ride them! They cook food, we eat it! They build little pins and creepy little dolls in the shape of Mickey Mouse, and we buy them! They guild wonderful hotels that are over priced, and we stay at them! Basically...we are all sheep to the Mouse! lol...This post was written in jest to liven up the mood here. In all honesty, it does get rather annoying seeing numerous posts where people site" inside sources" or this just in from my uncle's cousin's roommate's barber, who happens to also cut Bob Iger's hair. Plenty of us here know someone that works at WDW, or has worked there in the past. If an "inside source" is telling you sensitive info, I'm sure they don't want you blabbing on here anyhow" Just my opinion as an active member for a few years now...No let's all bounce...you would think the obvious character for a BOUNCING head would have been TIgger!!!! lol

"hold on to them hats and glasses, cause this here's the wildest ride in the wilderness!!"

Re: Disney Hollywood Studios Expansion Rumored
I completely agree with acp on this. Let's not have conversations nor post stuff as Facts/Announcements when they are rumors unless it's an official announcement from Disney. No matter how good the source might be.
Also, in agreement with acp, we DO fully support people discussing RUMORS. Those that hang out in the chat will know how hot-headed I can get about rumored happenings Disney might make.
That said, I trust my moderators, and loyal fans, to take care of this Forum. They WILL relay to me problems that arise here, like this, and I will handle as necessary. So, let not promote rumors as facts/announcements.
Thank you!
