Spaceship Earth Communications Showpiece no more?

Post by WillsEpcot81 » May Sun 06, 2007 4:46 pm

I wonder, since Siemens is not a big communication company says as AT&T was, if they will try flexing their muscles showcasing more of their communications? Or will they, as the articles and rumors I have read, have them showing their broad range of products in Spaceship Earth

For what it's worth, I don't think they'll be focusing on their communications in the exit exhibit at Spaceship Earth. We were there a little over a week ago and they had signs up stating the new attraction would deal with the future of medicine and health. (I think it dealt with being able to do medical work from remote locations.) Sounds cool, but not strictly a communications focus.
Doing medical work remotely...that would be great if I could have my annual physical performed without even leaving home. I wonder if I can do that online...

From what I've seen on some of the science channels, They are already doing a limited number of procedures remotely. To what extent and type I could not say.

Interesting to read this thread so long after it was started. Some good rumors proven true at the beginning (Nemo at Living Seas, Refurb of El Tiemp..., updates of World Showcase).

Good stuff. Obviously they determined celebrating the 35th had little value and it appears celebrating Epcot's 25th is similar. But the amount of work going into Epcot is encouraging.

Anyone want to sepculate on when Universe of Energy and Wonders of Life will get a badly needed update or destruction and redo?

SSE is probably my favorite ride. I liked it how it was but completely understand for the upgrade. I hope they keep the overall statement of the ride and also the scene of rome burning I love that smell. All for the better I hope

Yes! "Rome burning" is a great smell kind of like BBQ sauce or that old Creomulsion medicine we used to take as kids.

Are they still planning on SSE being closed on October 1st? Seems like a bit of bad planning to me.
Drop another coin in slot and I will tell you more.

Umm... It will be interesting to see what the screens will be used for, a "live narrator" or a video to supplement the scene the car is going through?

Rumor has it the screens will be used at the end ala Horizon style and they will put your face in the screen.
Sponsor Siemens has made mention of interactions in every ride vehicle where guests create their own vision of the future, which sounds a lot like the old ending to Horizons. One report claims this will be achieved by taking photographs of the visitors and compositing them atop images in the ride, to put visitors literally into the future.

I believe Wonders of Life is down and out for the count. They are going to use the emptied pavillion building for the Food and Wine Festival. I hope they soon get another sponsor and attraction up and running but based on EPCOT's history it could be years and years.

Universe of Energy needs a major overhaul but I have not heard anything about redoing the aging attraction.

I have heard rumors of WDI wanting to redo the Imagination Pavillion again. If they could bring back Dreamfinder...

My guess is UE is not going to get any tlc for a while, or at least till a new sponsor jumps on board. Exxon pulled out awhile ago. And sadly it seems Disney doesn't really care like they should, unless a sponsor starts complaining.

As for WOL... not looking good. Signs down, and emptied out for the Food Festival. Rumor has it the only thing that remains is Cranium Command and Body Wars. Looks like WOL is the new Odyssey. This is really a sad fact since WOL, and Body Wars were such a icon for Epcot for so many years.

I have heard rumors of both UE and WOL being demolished for some super pavilion, but at this point think that is a major rumor.

As for the Dreamfinder, I have heard that rumor too. That rumor surfaced after Lasseter was named Chief Creative Officer. Guess time will tell.
