I believe so. The materials that were used for the wand signified that the structure was going to be temporary.

I have gotten news from some inside sources that Disney has ordered all departments to stop using the hat as the park icon in any/all materials. This can be seen in the pins I posted earlier as well as the new Ultimate WDW video not really showing much of the hat. I'm guessing that it will be gone before 2015.

It also seems to me that the Star Wars area won't be coming until 2016 or 2017.

That would be kind of late, but at the same time there is no noted end to the number of films they plan on making. It might not be 2016 because that would most likely be when the Pandora/avatar land section would open and it most likely would have some ties to the new trilogy. If they did both in the same year they would kind of blow their load too early in terms of trying to get repeat visits.

The talks with Avatar are that that is being pushed back till 2017 or 2018. The NGE was given a higher priority than the Avatar. That's why there has been such a delay with Avatar

I'm not totally sure about that, the main reason for the slow start likely was that the next films didn't have concrete dates yet and originally 2015 was the next date for release, which was also when the land was supposed to open.

at D23 convention they had an entire exhibit for Avatar, and didn't they stat construction at AK already in the past month or so?

They have applied for permits and are going to start demolition soon, so basically they have started, just nothing the outsider could see.

They have started building the new FOTLK building in Africa. Not much for Avatar

That's correct. Once the new building is done, then construction of the actual Avatar area will begin. As you probably heard, Mickey and Minnie have a new meet and greet by the entrance of It's Tough to be a Bug.
