Dumbo is a classic Disney ride and very very popular. That is why it is moving and expanding. If it were not so popular, it would go the way of Mr. Toad. I agree, it is a glorified carnival ride and that is why I usually skip it, but its a great ride for children who can't do SM or BTMR.

And I am not dissing Universal "out of hand," my opinion is based on actual visits which I do not care to repeat (not even for Harry Potter Land). Like mindflipper said, the park is in disrepair. Seuss Landing is not the only area that needs a new coat of paint. Both IoA and the Studios need serious work done. It reminds me of WDW in the early 90's. Not only that, but the employees are not held to the same level of professionalism that they are at Disney. When I was last there (June '09), the employees were rude and flippant. I felt like I was bothering them when I had to speak to them. I understand dealing with the public sucks, but you don't let the public know how much it sucks. Keep the eye rolling and the huffing backstage please.

Just remember that Disney had a small phase (at least I experienced) in the early 2000's where the CM's were also a bit rude.

Anybody have any pictures of the walls yet?

All parks can have a rude employee. It doesn't mean that employee is always rude - that employee could just be rude that day for any of many particular reasons. An employee is a just a person like us who can be emotionally impacted by the same things that can change our personality and make us rude. I've encountered more rude park visitors on my trips that I have encountered rude park employees.

Can't really see the walls (you have to know where to look) as most are backstage behind bushes and foliage of the Pooh playground and Ariel's Grotto.

Yes, I understand and I do remember that. Of course that was before Disney instituted the one-strike rule.

True, but my experience involved many employees in various locations. It seemed to be an overall theme.

Well, that's good. At least they are trying to conceal the construction for as long as possible and not just putting up walls that will remain for a couple years.

I admit that at times during my CM experience I was a bit short with people, especially under pressure or when the guests were just acting plain stupid! It happens... but not often. :)

As with everyone else, Disney has to file permits with the Florida government (Orange/Osceola Counties to be precise) before any work can happen on Disney property. Today 8 permits were filed. Mostly for demo on some sheds backstage, but this signifies that some major work will be underway in the near future.

That is great news to hear. It seems like clearing the area will be underway within the coming weeks. Thanks for passing on that information!

Question...

With an expansion as big as this one, will there be an expansion of the utilidors as well? I would assume there would be. This would tack on more time for construction I assume.

Maybe. Maybe not. The back of the expansion, Beauty and The Beast and TLM, Dumbo or Pixie Hollow, whichever is put in the back (both Dumbo and PH have been placed in the back of the park on the blueprints, concept art and the model Disney released, depending on which you look at) will be bordered by a back road, so most CMs who get assigned there probably won't have to use the utilidors to get to the area. We will see though.

On a side note: Toontown Fair has no tunnels.

Just wasn't sure since there will be a good bit back there as in food, attractions with vehicles, etc. These things can require maintenance and of course any food place will need to get rid of their trash. I guess being in the back near a service road can alleviate issues there. Also, if they are going to have a good bit of characters walking around, will they want to use utilidors to move them around and out of sight? Maybe they will just use the existing Fantasyland utilidors. It would just be weird to see some characters overlapping but I guess that happens now anyway in Fantasyland laid out the way it is currently.

Is Toontown still raised to a second story height?

Most friends of the characters () don't leave the park or walk around the park all dressed up. They usually wear street clothes (usually given to them by Disney. If you are wondering what to look for, PM me. I'm not posting where a child who doesn't know any better will have the magic broken by reading this) when not on set for an M&G. All they need are a few break rooms in the same building as the M&Gs.

True, and backstage Toontown is a pain to navigate. I cannot COUNT how many times I got lost back there during my CM days.
