I heard that someone recently looked at a DHS map in the park and the hat was no longer on it, which is a pretty good indication as well!
I'm okay with it being gone -- didn't really fit in IMO. I've heard about the movie ride going away as well, so it will be interesting to see what they will want the center hub to look like and how to theme everything and bring it together. Not a huge fan of Star Wars land....just hoping that everyone will be over there when it opens so no one will be at Toy Story Mania! lol

It's funny, I was just up at WDW for a quick trip a couple days ago. When we went to Hollywood Studios, I took a picture of the Sorcerer's Hat... kind of in a nostalgic way. Even though I too missed seeing the Chinese Theatre at the end of the street and the hat seemed out of place, it's always sad to see anything go. There's just a lot of changes going on everywhere in every park! I've been there 4 times in the last 3 months and every time I go there is something else being done!

Sigh...I love the hat but I guess it doesn't matter what I like! I did like when the Tower was the main focus for promo material and what you thought of when you first thought of the studios but I still loved the hat.

It feels like an exciting time to be a DisneyPark fan, as long as we can get through a few years of expansion/construction! I'm about to embark on a three times in three months schedule - it's the most intense schedule of trips we have had/we'll probably ever have, and I can't wait.

Thanks! It just cooled off maybe-a-little-too-much here in south-eastern Pennsylvania! Low 80s should be lovely.

Also glad to see the "temporary" hat going down! I always loved looking down Hollywood blvd to the theater...and can't wait to do it again!

The entire park of Hollywood Studios is pretty much being redone. The only rides that are safe from the remodel are Tower of Terror, Rock n Rollercoaster, Toy Story Midway Mania, and Star Tours. I originally thought movie ride would be safe, but now talks have increased about removing it. People may say that hey the park is named Disney Hollywood Studios they need to have a movie ride. Well what if the name of the park was changed yet again? (which is an option that has been talked about).

Considering it is a garbage attraction that has no links to the target demographic, I would never have thought it being safe. Even the façade is too heavily dated to be relevant.

Wow - thanks for the info! Seems like the hat could be gone before the New Year?

The hat will be coming down, as well as the Great Movie Ride will be getting a "refresh". The ride will now be sponsored by TCM (Turner Classic Movies), and will have a new movie montage in the finale as well as have Robert Osbourne doing the pre-ride video and ride narration. The article is in the Orlando Sentinel:
