I'm not sure whether they mean "surprise" in the literal sense, but I am going in January and I want to know now! I'm afraid if I don't know, I might miss it.

I'm going in January too. There are so few mysteries in life that I'm ok with not knowing what the "surprise" will be when I'm there.

Woah! Pirates week sounds like a blast! I might have to check that one out in WDW, as well as the Independence Week one too.

Well I understand the whole surprise thing... but also.. if you have a little leeway on when you are going to visit WDW, it may affect when you go.. If you dont like the celebration the first week in august, maybe you will go the second week in august.

For me, my next trip is going to be the first week of October. (SOOOOO FAR AWAY!) and we have no wiggle room because we are celebrating our 10 year anniversary.

so I would kinda like to know what its gonna be while we are there.

Dumb question.. do their celebration weeks go Sunday to Saturrday or Monday to Sunday? When we go we are probably going to overlap weeks.

I agree with you. We generally have some leeway on our travel dates when we are planning well in advance so it would be nice to know some of the events that are planned. I would guess the weeks would go Monday to Sunday but I don't know for sure. That's a good question! If you are going to overlap weeks, all the better ~ maybe 2 surprises will be in store for you :D

It'll be interesting to see the quality of these. Coming up with 52 different events/promotions/gimmicks that drive more attendance will be the test. They could do a whole week celebrating each land in the MK, for instance. That'd be cool.

I think they have already shown that some of these are really going to be a stretch. Dapper Dans singing Boy Band music as a celebration?? Since when do we celebrate crappy music?

It might just be an age thing, trying to appeal to those of us in our mid-late 20s. I was growing up around the time most boy band music was popular, so I find this to be very funny. It's just something unexpected.

I can see NaCler's point though ~ some of the surprises are less than surprising and very gimmicky...nothing that makes people want to book a trip right away

They might be trying what we have at DLR, short, less extensive events/celebrations as opposed to some year long thing. It works well at DLR since we have more repeat guests, but that formula will probably suffer at WDW.

Eh, it will get them good feelings from guests that happen to be there during the bigger events. And judging from all his Facebook pictures, rdeacon is there ALL THE TIME now, so he should end up getting something good ;)

It does seem like Rdeacon is there all the time there lately. Hope he has an annual pass...

To each their own on the boy band stuff as my wife loves NKOTB and NSYNC. I just think it makes no sense to have it as a celebration. Especially having the Dapper Dans sing it. If they wanted to draw people in that week, why didn't they book the boy bands old and new to play concerts in the MK all week? That would make more sense as a celebration. Is anyone going to book a whole trip just because the DD's will be singing those songs that week?

Nope.
