If they really enforce the time when fast pass can be used.... that may seem that it will put more pressure on the guests to be there on time. Makes me wonder about the poor people waiting in line for other attractions or meals....Makes me a little weary.

I've actually been surprised that there is any enforcement on the return times. It's one thing if you could go venture to some third party establishment that Disney collects no rent/money from, but you are basically on a land locked cruise ship at WDW so the best you are doing is punishing guests who are spending money in other establishments or rushing them and causing them to either skip courses or possibly opt for quick serve over sit down dining.

Just checking on an old FP in my wallet, they are not printed on recycled paper (or at least do not pimp it like with their other cardstock). You also forget that an RFID chip uses a lot of copper (for the power antenna) so the metal means more strip mining as the old cards will not be recycled.

Yeah, I'm really just thinking how cool it would be to be able to flash the FP card in front of a reader and sail on in to the attraction

They are, pretty much every item that is printed at the moment of use at DLR is that way too. The term "Virign wood/pulp" is kind of like the notion of the american farm, they aren't so much going out and chopping down old growth forests but rather tracts of trees that were planted, still not neutral for the environment but at the same time not chopping down a relic.


Would that really be any different than throwing a piece of paper at a worker and walking on by without even giving them a chance to read it?

WHy not put tubs at the exits of the parks, or at all attractions like they do for the 3D glasses? Yes some of us may take them home for a scrapbook or something, but I bet the common guest will give them back if it's asked of themk. Just mt $.02.

I agree, I think they could recycle them. Some people don't appreciate a free souvenir

Yes, they can be used again, but if it were tied to the ticket (the most logical thing) the guests would probably not even think about returning them. Plus there are issues like changing designs, tickets getting nasty after being in people's pockets in the summer, etc.

It is akin to how frequently you return a room key.

but you're not asked to return your room key. I would imagine if they were to ask for them back they would get them. They can be steralized the same way they do the glasses.

In the past, hotels used to ask for them back (some still do have boxes to return them in the lobby) but to take them back, sort, clean, etc. isn't worth it. Roomkeys/reused tickets also take a lot more abuse than 3D glasses as well.

WDW expressly tells you to keep your hotel key card as a souvenir.

Possibly. They are also imprinted with your name and dates of stay.

Take into account that they don't use encryption on hotel key card data,it means a lot of risk if people didn't take the cards with them.

Hotel rooms are actually not that safe since going to the readers, in some cases the code is simply the next number in a sequence for that room so anyone with a writer can get in.

and now that the keys are coming w/ embedded rfid chips... it is just easier to be rid of them, then to shred and sort out the bits and reuse... the AA resorts have rfid room locks, so that is one less chip to manufacture. it is no more expensive as the tags that set off door alarms, so they prolly will let the fp's go...

It can be quite hard to remove them (a friend of mine did it to his oyster card so he could embed it in his phone) if you want to keep the hardware intact since they embed them in to keep the wire array in a fixed position for the reader to power it up. They could shred them and then burn it to get the copper though. Not the most green thing but it's a thing.

I really hope they don't get RFID hotel keys, considering how close in proximity people are at WDW, it would be really easy to read the keys (which again, are not typically encrypted) and rob the rooms.
