Bowling in WDW

Having such limited time at Disney parks, I just can't see us taking time out for bowling... too much other exciting things to see and do.

Just a friendly FYI: Splitsville is the company that will be running this alley. It won't be Disney run for those who though it would be.

Time will tell. It is on Disney property, and I've never been to a Splitsville before so I don't know if there are rules about that. Anyone want to fill me in?

This is going in the old Virgin Megastore? So long as it is open later than the parks it should be a pretty good idea. I just hope people aren't too tired to bowl after a day in the parks!

Yes it will be the former Virgin Megastore. I have a feeling it'll close either 11 or 12pm or pull a CityWalk and close at 2am.

I'm with you on this Goofyfan. We have a bowling alley that does "cosmic bowling" literally a half-mile from our house.

I feel the same way as you Goofyfan ~ same goes for me seeing a movie while on vacation. Not going to do that when I can do that at home when I'm not spending all that money to be at Disney. I think MadEye is right. The newer offerings at DTD are to bring more locals in and spend some time and money...

Like with the stuff at DTD/PI, it's a night club for people who normally can't get into night clubs, in this case it has bowling. If it's like the one down in tampa, long story dull city, it will be kids and families all day until about 10 or so, then they put a guy at the door to restrict entry with minors. Though, I think minors can go in if they are with an adult.

This reminds me of the roller rink at Pleasure Island. That was fun and a bit more unique than bowling, and they took it out. I can just see them in the planning meeting trying to figure out what to do with that GIANT space. Hey, bowling! Well, we'll see how it goes.

I am always amazed that bowling alleys and mini golf courses still exist. They may have a few hours a week where they are busy, but their overhead must be crazy low that their rapid pace towards obsolesence doesn't entice them to close. They clearly must also own the land, since rent would be sky high.

One would think bowling alleys have more of a consistent cash flow than mini-golf courses, due to bowling leagues, tournaments, etc. Our local bowling alley is usually at least mildly busy during the day, and packed at night. I never see more than maybe 3 groups of people at the only mini-golf place in town, and that's usually in the summer! It's been that way probably at least 10 years. And yet they trudge on somehow.

I'm with y'all who think this is more for locals than anything else. I can't see myself wasting park time (or resort time) for a game of bowling (or like you, Amy, a movie). We did try Fantasia Gardens mini-golf last year though, because we knew the course we chose was Disney--fied. It was a blast!

That said, this sounds neat. Our alley doesn't let food or drinks anywhere near the lanes either; food and drink have to be kept in two separate rooms way at the front of the building, far away from all the lanes, rental desk, etc.

Every time I've gone mini golfing at WDW, it's always been busy regardless of time of year. Heck, if Universal sees the need to open some mini golf courses of their own, Disney must be doing something right.
