I have this friend that is OBSESSED with the Poly and seems to believe Disney is going to freaking sell her a room there... if it gets refurbed I'll never hear the end of her whining about it.![]()

Re: Polynesian Rumor
You could walk Boilerbabe into the lobby, blindfold her, spin her around a few times, and when you're done she'll just listen to the sounds for about 10 seconds and then proceed to walk the entire resort blindfolded without bumping into anything....

Brian845 wrote:OK, I heard this rumor from our Magical Express bus driver on the way back to the airport, so I have not clue as to the veracity of it, or whether it's been discussed before. He informed me that after the new Art of Animation resort opened up in 2012, that they'd be shutting down the Polynesian for refurbishment (not in sections, the whole thing at once...something about asbestos being commonly used in early 1970s construction). This will be interesting to see if it happens, 'cos I was hoping to stay in the Poly on our next trip!
Just FYI. DME isn't even Disney. It's out sourced to Mears. So it's not even like it came from a Disney Cast Member Bus Driver.
Not to beat you up but...Why would you give this any more weight than say another random guest in the park telling you that? I see it all the time on the boards, a bus driver between X and Y told us that Disney is going to Z! Really? I'm not saying bus drivers aren't smart or anything like that, but I really don't think corporate decision making really flows though the bus driver pool.
That said, tenting and removing asbestos is a pretty simple operation, and Disney are experts at putting up the blue plywood wall. Also it's the fine fibres in the air that cause the problems, not when it's locked up in a wall. it's not like the stuff is radioactive or something. If dust isn't coming off it because it's say between two sheetrock walls, it's safe.

Re: Polynesian Rumor
I would be very suprized if the entire resort was closed down. That would be many high dollar rooms lost. Plus there would be a lot less intrest for people to visit the resturants there. I could see them closing one house at a time.

Re: Polynesian Rumor
I'm willing to be it might go as a building by building rehab. Just look how Disney redid the Disneyland Hotel. That was done one tower at a timeoboeman wrote:I would be very suprized if the entire resort was closed down. That would be many high dollar rooms lost. Re: Polynesian Rumor
Even at that, it could be a "salami" rehab - slice it up floor by floor and just do one floor at a time. I remember they did that to the Disneyland Hotel during one stay at DLR and to Contemporary one time as well.

Re: Polynesian Rumor
I will say that there is a lot of rumors starting to really come up. Most of them are on this scale so I would start watching this closely. I'm assuming we'll know soon as Disney will have start blocking out the resort... That is if the refurb/rebuild is to happen.99Soulz wrote:Adding to the rumor......
