Well, I have to admit, some of the details are from my husband....he drove last time we were in Clearwater so he remembered about Sand Key.

Not really a special event, just the first vacation my husband and I are taking alone without the kids! Our youngest is 15 and is in Los Angeles for the summer playing in Baseball showcases, and all the older ones are doing their own thing. So it's a wonderful "adult" trip, and I am so excited!!!!!

Another option for renting a car is to get it from the rental place at the Dolphin. DW and I did this and it worked out perfect. We spent the morning at AK and then took the bus from there to the Dolphin. We picked up our car...and headed back to our resort. It saved us time from having to get a shuttle to pick us up and allowed us to tour the parks that day. Might not fit your scenario...but it worked great for us.

As they say, the further north you go the more south it gets.

That's got to be one of the scariest pictures I've scene in a looooooooooong time!! Everybody thought my mental picture was bad!!
Siesta Key has to be one of the prettiest beach in Florida. If I were you that would be my destination. If you want a great beach with world class fishing, make Apollo Beach your destination. It's just south of Tampa and not a long trip from WDW, maybe an hour and a half. If you want a little longer trip, maybe 3 hours, go to Sanibel Island on the Lee County coast. It's always rated one of the best shelling places in the WORLD!!

That is a great tip! I'll have to remember that if we ever need a car rental...convenient and it would give me an opportunity to see the hotel - we've never taken the time to visit there yet.

So my first thought when I saw that picture was: I don't know which is worse...Jacca in his slinky dress or Wizzard in a bikini
As far as beaches in FL go, I only have been to Cocoa Beach on the Atlantic side. But the conditions were not favorable and I wasn't impressed (but glad to have experienced the Atlantic). I'd like to see the Gulf coast beaches.

Definitely try to get to the Gulf side the next time you are in Florida. The salty water doesn't taste good but it sure is warm and buoyant for swimming

I dunno, doesn't looking at either make you go blind?
