I believe the ride is already down for refurbishment.

So sad. My thoughts and prayers to the family.

For those of you wondering, the Primeval Whirl is going to stay closed throughout the summer. It was originally supposed to reopen in April but was pushed back until June as a result of this incident. It is now scheduled to be back up and running around September.

DW already told me we weren't going to ride this because it makes her woozy...so she won't be disappointed.

Wow ~ do you know if it is because they are having to do some re-engineering for CM and guest safety?

I have not yet had the pleasure to enjoy this attraction. Its never good to hear there is trouble in paradise. It seems this is happening way to often throughout Disney properties. I think I might evaluate the head of the safety department.

When you consider the sheer number of CM's and guests on the property at any one time, their track record is pretty good. But any serious injury or death is never welcome, even given the percentages :(

Death-wise, considering WDW employs 62000 of us CMs for hundreds of thousands of guests daily... they have an excellent track record with accidents and deaths when compared to other parks (Six Flags comes to mind here, the one in Atlanta is pretty much a death trap). I still am saddened when accidents do happen.

However I highly doubt the parks would ever be shut down...

OSHA is still doing an investigation. Therefore, no work is being done to the attraction at all.

Hmmm, they are really taking a long time with this investigation huh? Is there something more to this accident than was first released?

It might simply take a long time when the ride itself killed a person (vs a medical issue), Big Thunder was closed for a very long time when someone got killed on that.

OSHA takes its time to do an investigation. Until they're completed, the company is at its mercy.

Hopefully the state didn't cut back on OSHA, then it will take even longer if there aren't as many workers.

Keep in mind this is the second CM to be killed on this particular attraction. The first one involved a CM who fell from a platform. Disney would later add pressure e-stop sensors to prevent things like that from happening again. This occurred back at the end of 2007.

That might also be part of the hold-up.

Oh, I hadn't realized that...very sad. Hopefully they can come to some sort of conclusion where the ride can operate safely.
