I sort of remember that. It was still pretty amazing to see thoughmindflipper wrote:I don't know if you're aware of this, but not all those characters in that scene were animatronics. Many of them were basically stationary like statues. The fact that some were animatronics that moved made you think they all were animatronics that moved, but that wasn't the case. And in some cases the animatronics weren't completely animated characters. A head move, or an arm, but the rest of it could not. More like an animated mannequin. Disney couldn't afford to stock that one scene with that many animatronics or it would have wrecked the budget.

I don't think I would consider that famous, memorable perhaps but not famous.

While the rides are/were both contained in the same building and are about cars, so to speak, thats where the comparison stops. Both rides are completely different and I do love the music and ambiance of WOM. I have old video of my grandparents and I going up the spiral incline, going outdoors, and loving it? The slow incline into the building really was peaceful and relaxing. My vote is for WOM!

Re: World of Motion vs. Test Track
This is the one thing about WoM bothered me when I first experienced it back in 1989. I thought it felt a little cheap. Also, many of the Epcot attractions (now lamented as beloved and lost) were big on projections to fill up space. WoM was notorious for this, with wall-sized movies playing in almost every scene, not just during transitions. The Mexico boat ride does this today, obviously now with Donald, but that will give you an idea what it was like.mindflipper wrote:I don't know if you're aware of this, but not all those characters in that scene were animatronics. No one's gloomy or complaining while the flatware's entertaining.

Don't forget they also had the same sponsor.
As for projections in Mexico, they had those from the start. I think for the most part the updates to their ride was in the music and video.
Re: World of Motion vs. Test Track
But they did take out an impressive set for a screen finale in the "update" to Gran Fiesta... The only addition that has any of the Three Caballeros not on a screen is a Donald Duck piñata.Wizzard419 wrote:Don't forget they also had the same sponsor.

I have to admit, I think the original finale felt more impressive than the Gran Fiesta Tour finale.MadEye wrote:But they did take out an impressive set for a screen finale in the "update" to Gran Fiesta... You do know that there are animatronics backstage of the Three Caballeros that were supposed to be used in the finale scene...right? Problem was they ran out of money and time to put them out there. So they just stuck with the corny video. The animatronics were taken from the old Mickey Mouse Revue.mindflipper wrote:I have to admit, I think the original finale felt more impressive than the Gran Fiesta Tour finale.MadEye wrote:But they did take out an impressive set for a screen finale in the "update" to Gran Fiesta... So...they are literally backstage...wrapped up...waiting for more money so they can come back out. Sad.

That is too bad about them running out of time or money to install the AAs. Hopefully they can get them in their proper places in the next refurb.theBIGyowski wrote:...You do know that there are animatronics backstage of the Three Caballeros that were supposed to be used in the finale scene...right? Re: World of Motion vs. Test Track
I give the nod to WoM, although I do love Test Track. I guess I miss WoM because it's one of those things I remember about my first few times to Epcot, along with Horizons, Wonders of Life, etc. In a perfect world, I wish they could have just added Test Track to WoM.

Re: World of Motion vs. Test Track
I hate to burst a bubble here - but now that the current ending is in, they are not going back to put a different ending in unless they change the entire ride again. Those animatronic figures will not be used there; I wouldn't be surprised if they get moved somewhere else (maybe off to Hong Kong or Shanghai maybe?)...theBIGyowski wrote:You do know that there are animatronics backstage of the Three Caballeros that were supposed to be used in the finale scene...right? Yeah I know they won't be put out there...just sad that they are not all that far away right now in storage. They are actually pretty good animatronics from what I have seen in the Mickey Mouse Revue.mindflipper wrote:I hate to burst a bubble here - but now that the current ending is in, they are not going back to put a different ending in unless they change the entire ride again. As for WoM or Test Track...I would have to go with Test Track just because it's something you can ride over and over and over again. WoM is obviously the better of the two in terms of music and listening on Subsonic...but Test Track has re-ride-ability.

Re: World of Motion vs. Test Track
Does anyone have any CM sources at EPCOT that can confirm this?MadEye wrote:That isn't sad... thats stupid!!!theBIGyowski wrote:You do know that there are animatronics backstage of the Three Caballeros that were supposed to be used in the finale scene...right? Unless you know exactly where they are, chances are you won't find them. They store things for different attractions all over the place. I remember when I was working in Tomorrowland that they kept a replacement for the Captain Hook figure that is sword fighting Pan in Pan's Flight and 3 (very creepy) naked small world kids in the untilidors in Tomorrowland. Chances are Fantasyland CMs didn't even know they were there...mindflipper wrote:Does anyone have any CM sources at EPCOT that can confirm this?MadEye wrote:That isn't sad... thats stupid!!!theBIGyowski wrote:You do know that there are animatronics backstage of the Three Caballeros that were supposed to be used in the finale scene...right?
