Re: Most Overrated and Favorite Restaurant?
Favorite: O'hana...it's just hard to beat all that food and entertainment if you are a skewer lover
Overrated: Coral Reef...the food has been great every time I have been there...but if you don't get the free dining plan it is NOT worth it...very slow service and it is very loud
I have never actually had bad food at WDW...but sometimes the service has been sub par and it has sometimes not been worth the money...but I have never had bad food.

Re: Most Overrated and Favorite Restaurant?
Over-rated: 'Ohana. I normally hear very good things about this place, so maybe it's just me. Been there twice. Both times I'd rate it as average. I liked the appetizers such as the noodles and the wings more than the actual skewered meats. The chicken, beef and pork all seemed overcooked and dry. The sauces made the meats edible. The entertainment is all right, but I get bored watching the same parade; I'd probably have more fun if I had kids.
It's not a bad place to eat, I think it's just overrated.
Favorite: Jiko- The Cooking Place. Been there about 4 or 5 times and each time I've loved it. More importantly, the people I'm with also likd their dishes. From the filet mignon to the short ribs or the pork loin to the duck breast, it was all tender and delicious. Pricey, but so worth it.
I'll add my least favorite Disney restaurant: Liberty Tree Tavern. I can only attest to the lunch. Ick.

Re: Most Overrated and Favorite Restaurant?
Favourite - Jiko. Still the most memorable and delicious meal we've had at WDW (to date, anyhow).
Overrated - Le Celier. We loved this place the first time we ate there. Our last 2 visits have been average at best. Slow service, average food.
As others have mentioned to me, many of the restaraunts at WDW seem to have gone slightly downhill starting around the time the dining plan was offered. Le Celier has gone downhill more drastically that others, IMO.

Can't get back to WDW soon enought, but alas, no immediate plans...

Re: Most Overrated and Favorite Restaurant?
I love Disney and the restaurants. I think they are all fantastic within the context of being at Disney World. The theming, the atmosphere... everything is great. But if you dropped those restaurants in the middle of my town, I probably wouldn't go to any of them. Just as pure restaurants, they are all overrated. Think about it.... if Kona Cafe was in your town square and had that limited a breakfast menu and charged $10.49 for a ham and cheese omelet with home fires and toast and then another $2.69 for a cup of coffee, would you go?

That's actually the price range (I think a dollar less) than what the places here charge for breakfast.

I had to admit, I was impressed with O'hana, which I ate for the first time back on Dec. 4th. I always enjoy the Liberty Tree Tavern.
My fave was Alfredo's Ristorante di Roma at EPCOT. It's replacement to me falls into the category of "over-rated". It was disappointing.

We enjoyed O'hana too, but more for the company than the food. It was a way more expensive meal than we had ever had, and neither of us ate very much.mindflipper wrote:I had to admit, I was impressed with O'hana, which I ate for the first time back on Dec. 4th. Favorite: Citricos, great food, quiet atmosphere and a great view.
Most overrated: Crystal Palace, good food, but the characters are the big draw there and there are a lot less crowded locations you can have that experience.

Re: Most Overrated and Favorite Restaurant?
I'd admit I used to like Crystal Palace before it became character dining than afterwards. I think there used to be a better variety and quality to the food. It seems like that has been allowed to slide since the focus of the restaurant shifted to being a character-meet first, dining second.

For me, the most overrated is Kona. I've been there 3 times and each time the food wasn't very great, and the service got worse and worse.
My absolute favorite is California Grill! The food is incredible and so is the view. It's definately worth the price.

Yeah, but at the same time incomes are higher here and rents are higher here so it all balances out for people that live here.kcarts wrote:Wizzard419 wrote:That's actually the price range (I think a dollar less) than what the places here charge for breakfast. For a H&C omlete, potatoes and toast?!?! Just another reason to avoid SoCal.

I would love to eat at the California Grill sometime. I would think watching the fireworks from above would be very cool!mkfan1992 wrote:For me, the most overrated is Kona. I've been there 3 times and each time the food wasn't very great, and the service got worse and worse.

Re: Most Overrated and Favorite Restaurant?
I don't know many, I live in Boston too and we aren't too far behind $10.00 for that sort of breakfast. Obviously you can find cheaper, but even cheap places usually charge like $5.50 and that's the cheap places.kcarts wrote:Wizzard419 wrote:That's actually the price range (I think a dollar less) than what the places here charge for breakfast. For a H&C omlete, potatoes and toast?!?! That is EXACTLY how I felt about the place! If it weren't for the sauces there was no way I was eating the meats, they were all super charred on the outside and very dry on the inside. The appetizers were the best part.Lion Sleeps Tonight wrote:Over-rated: 'Ohana. I normally hear very good things about this place, so maybe it's just me. Been there twice. It's funny though so many people have as their favorites all the places I thought were overrated

I have to say though I would never recommend anyone go to Tony's Town Square. The only enjoyable part of the entire meal was the bread. Even the water tasted liked they'd scooped it out of maybe the Poly's pool- the chlorine content was overwhelming beyond even that of most central FL water. I also had some sort of shank, it may have been veal? I forget it was a few years ago now. It came in a brown sauce that tasted like they'd poured a full bottle of vermouth into it. I'd rather have my booze in a glass with my meal than soaked into the meat that comprises my meal. We also had an app to split and while it was good enough not to specifically remember how terrible it was it was clearly unmemorable.
Re: Most Overrated and Favorite Restaurant?
We actually had the perfect seats there once, right by the window, looking down over the castle. They dropped the lights and popped in the music, it was great. I wish I had seen the ones from this summer and how they shot off from around the whole park. That would have been impressive to see.Amy wrote:I would love to eat at the California Grill sometime.
