Good grief, NaCler, again with the vinylmations?! Let 'em go, already! (teasing,

)
I think the "Fork & Screen" theater thing is a great idea. We have a couple of them here in Houston, and I love going to movies there. Google Alamo Drafthouse, and click on "Franchise" on their home page and you'll see what I'm talking about. There's another one here that's even better than Alamo, called Star Cinema Grill. I'm really surprised that these have not caught on in Florida yet and Disney's will be the first. I guarantee you it will catch on after that!

No, he's not.
I'm actually surprised that they don't have theaters like that here, when they first came into existance I would have put money on them being in OC or one of the chains starting a system like that.
Now the theaters really do not care what you bring in (other than glass). When I was waiting for the Tron: Legacy preview the resturants were sending waitresses out with menus to offer line service that could be taken into the theater.

I gotta ask: given how over-priced concessions are - how expensive are the food items on the menu? Will they be doing credit checks on you before you order?

Dang I just looked at the one for Arizona and it's dirt cheap. The screens are tiny compared to your normal megaplex but admission there is 8.50 for normal adults and 7 for matinee and the menu is priced the same as any moderate resturant.

If it's 8.50 for normal adults, how much for the abnormal adults?

Wow... we certainly overpay here in Miami! Our movie prices are $12.50 for a regular movie and $15.50 for a 3D movie! Trust me, I pick and choose my movie choices very carefully, only see 2 or 3 movies a year. We wait for DVD. So, I can only imagine the prices in Disney for a dining and movie thing, sheeeesh!

Caught a glimpse of the new concession stand (the one facing the former Virgin store) on Friday and all that I can tell is that it is a lot more colorful than it was before.

The extra three bucks they explain is the cost for the 3D glasses. So if I'm spending $3 bucks to buy the glasses (which is not optional), then why should I give the glasses back after the movie is over by depositing them into a recycling bin as I'm leaving the theatre?

Same here, I think movies are still 10-11.50 after 7 PM but during the matine it's at the super low discount of $10!
As for the 3D glasses, the ones they use at the Irvine Imax theater are the same ones from Disneyland (the yellow ones), so they don't even have the nice ability to fold shut.

An interesting side note on 3D glasses: apparently they're not all the same. We saw "UP" in 3D at a theater when it came out here, and the glasses were so nice that we saved them thinking we could use them on our next trip to WDW. So we brought them and tried to use them in ITTBAB at AK. They didn't work! Apparently the movie makers have the ability to set the 3D imaging in such a way that you have to use the glasses they designed specifically for that movie. There may be some cross-compatibility sometimes, I'm guessing, but obviously all 3D imaging techniques and/or settings are not the same. Interesting....
