That's your perception as being a non-pet owner. Has your family ever had a pet?

If and when you get a pet, Mark86, you might find yourself thinking differently. Pets can form an incredibly strong bond with its owner. The "pampering" is merely providing the pet with a stimulus to distract it from not having it's human - the one it has formed a bond of love and trust - to do so for the pet.
Unfortunately, we have allergies and can't own a cat/dog. I know a lot of my friends have very strong bonds with their pets, which I would have if I owned a pet. Now could you justify paying for your pet to stay in a deluxe resort while you are in a moderate?? :goofy_bounce:

Sorry about the allergy. Part of the "luxury" cost is the fact the animal does get constant human interaction and is active during the day. When pet is kept at a kennel, it's just in a cage all day. The only human interaction it gets is when you show up to check on it, and the only time outside the cage is when they let you take out for "walkies".

My preference would be like the Loews chain of hotels over at Universal Studios. They maintain a certain select number of rooms that pet owners can keep their pets in the rooms with the guests. I would prefer Disney do the same instead of a "Luxury Pet Resort." Would it really kill them to set aside some part of a resort - or maybe build a special wing onto a resort - where pet owners can keep pets in the room while the pet owners are at the parks.

I agree with you 100%. I have heard a lot of horror stories after leaving animals in kennels. It is flat out cruel. Disney should have better arrangements for pets.

Now we're just gonna go with unfounded ugly rumors?

Be honest - so am I about the Luxury Pet Resort as well. I wish they could be like the Loews hotels over at Universal Studios where they set aside certain rooms for pet owners. I would prefer if they would have a special area at certain resorts where pet owners could keep their pets with them. Have a nearby dog-walk/run area. For cat owners, allocate space in the room where a litter box could be kept and cat furniture provided, even if it meant making the rooms slightly larger. IMHO, the kennels are minimal maintenance; the luxury pet resort is overboard - they need to find a middle ground that pet owners can be happy with as an alternative.

Well, for sure my Shih-Tzu Bocce Bambino is one of my children. He talks, says ma-ma, and understands when we spell c-h-i-c-k-e-n! But seriously, keeping him in a kennel here is not an option. The pups get so upset, it's heart wrenching. My daughter also has a Shih-Tzu, so when either one of us travel, one of us stays home with both dogs. However, we would love to travel together! So, this might be an option for us, I'm willing to pay whatever it takes for the pups to be happy and healthy. So if you multiply me times tons of more pet lovers, I'm sure this pet resort will be successful. Also I would love for Disney to have some kind of option for us to be in a "pet" room and we would just keep him with us. I would love that!!!

I will be there July 2 - 10 so I am for sure checking the place out, maybe get a brochure if possible and pictures. I will report back! Yay!!!

I would even go a step further and build a resort or two for people that want to bring pets. Or why not make Fort Wilderness a "pet friendly" resort?

I would WDW would have no trouble keeping a pets welcomed resort booked. A lot of people like to travel with their pets!

While I don't have any pets, I'm sure this will be handy for my in-laws who always have to figure out what to do with their dogs

I read more information on this yesterday in the Sentinel.

Here is a link:

I especially like the bit about the dog water park. That sounds cool. :pluto:

It looks like rates will be around $37 and up depending on what suite and services you want.

We currently board our dog in Sanford (just outside of Orlando) at Pet Paradise. I think its awesome that Disney is making better pet accommodations, but I'm still not sure if we'd switch over to Best Friends from Pet Paradise....PP includes playtime w/ other dogs in their outdoor pool area as part of boarding.

Actually Fort Wilderness is pet friendly. They have an off leash park there and everything. You just can't leave your dog unattended - meaning you'd have to board him or do doggy daycare while you're at the parks.
And dogs aren't allowed in the cabins.....which is dumb IMO.

But still, I do wish more disney resorts were pet friendly. Its all fine & good to leave your dog at doggy daycare while you're in the parks but it would be nice to bring him back to the resort with you at the end of the day.

I think most hoteliers/restaurants/etc. are still way behind in recognizing the niche that is dog owners.

Just got back from WDW, and since they said they were going to start taking reservations I expected it to be further along than this:Image

It's on Bonnet Creek Pkwy about a mile up on the left side from the Old Key west Resort. Doesn't look like it will be done until at least Christmas!
