Paper straws as of my last visit were only at Animal Kingdom. I recall having it in my cup at Tusker House. The straw was an annoyance and I ended up drinking straight from the cup along with the rest of my family and most people in the restaurant at that time. When I asked the server we were told that it was more of a preventative measure due to the animals. They claim if an animal was to get ahold of a plastic straw it could be very harmful where a paper straw is not as bad for them.
As for locking the thread, I personally see these as slightly different.

Yes, M-dude, Aloha Aisle is the snack place where I did my "Dole Whip" dance in Adventureland. And maybe they only gave you the paper straw to annoy you?!
It would make sense that the paper straws would be in place in AK for the safety of the animals, Len.
This is a little off topic...but when you dive in the Seas, you cannot wear your own hair ties, they give you special ones, to where if you were to lose it in the tank, it would pass through the gills of the all the fish. I thought that was a random, but fun tidbit!

No, the diving hair thing is not off topic, sounds like a "green" thing to me.

Seems like we could even start a whole topic of how Disney does take precautions to care for their animals. I would say that is being environmentally conscious. Good to see Disney thinking about all those little things that you and I would never even think about.boilerbabe wrote:Yes, M-dude, Aloha Aisle is the snack place where I did my "Dole Whip" dance in Adventureland. Maybe you didn't have a good tour guide for the Behind the Seeds Tour, we saw other things you don't see in the boat tour and we got to sample some of the veggies being grown. We also go to feed the Talapia!timekeeper wrote:I think they are pretty green but it might be more subtle stuff you dont notice. (Besides the straws, I hate paper straws.)
The behind the seeds tour was interesting but I was hoping for a bit more if that makes sense. We didnt see anything we didnt see in the land boat ride tour.

There was a moment where I think we were both on the same meds. I only this past trip experienced the paper straws. I am interested to see what straws are being used "if" we go again this summer. From what I recall, they are mostly plastic flexible/bendy straws.Mousekedude wrote:Well, I thought so....mindflipper wrote:Depending on where you are, sometimes its plastic, sometimes its paper -

Yep, that is the thread that I referenced on page one of this one. Similar areas of discussion, but both ask different questions.dwellsbct wrote:I posed a similar question in the following topic link:
