Maybe it's me that's clueless! Aloha Aisle is the snack place in Adventureland, MK, right? I'm almost 99% sure that's where I had one of the nefarious paper straws....

Paper straws as of my last visit were only at Animal Kingdom. I recall having it in my cup at Tusker House. The straw was an annoyance and I ended up drinking straight from the cup along with the rest of my family and most people in the restaurant at that time. When I asked the server we were told that it was more of a preventative measure due to the animals. They claim if an animal was to get ahold of a plastic straw it could be very harmful where a paper straw is not as bad for them.

As for locking the thread, I personally see these as slightly different.

Maybe it's time to recalibrate my meds. I could swear I had paper straws everywhere on this trip. I know for sure I had them at A.K. like you say, and definitely at Sanaa (which is at AK resort, of course), but I seem to remember them elsewhere as well. Unless I'm losing my mind....

Yes, M-dude, Aloha Aisle is the snack place where I did my "Dole Whip" dance in Adventureland. And maybe they only gave you the paper straw to annoy you?! :) It would make sense that the paper straws would be in place in AK for the safety of the animals, Len.

This is a little off topic...but when you dive in the Seas, you cannot wear your own hair ties, they give you special ones, to where if you were to lose it in the tank, it would pass through the gills of the all the fish. I thought that was a random, but fun tidbit!

That's it! They wanted to mess with my mind!

No, the diving hair thing is not off topic, sounds like a "green" thing to me.

Seems like we could even start a whole topic of how Disney does take precautions to care for their animals. I would say that is being environmentally conscious. Good to see Disney thinking about all those little things that you and I would never even think about.

I think they are pretty green but it might be more subtle stuff you dont notice. (Besides the straws, I hate paper straws.)

The behind the seeds tour was interesting but I was hoping for a bit more if that makes sense. We didnt see anything we didnt see in the land boat ride tour.

Maybe you didn't have a good tour guide for the Behind the Seeds Tour, we saw other things you don't see in the boat tour and we got to sample some of the veggies being grown. We also go to feed the Talapia!

Depending on where you are, sometimes its plastic, sometimes its paper - maybe they're in process of getting the straws all converted over to paper??

There was a moment where I think we were both on the same meds. I only this past trip experienced the paper straws. I am interested to see what straws are being used "if" we go again this summer. From what I recall, they are mostly plastic flexible/bendy straws.

When we were there in December, the Dole Whips were literally green! They colored them for Christmas.
The paper straws taste really nasty. The texture messes with your taste buds. I really hope Disney drops them, but I doubt it.
*sigh*..... as Kermit would say, "It ain't easy being green..."

Yep, that is the thread that I referenced on page one of this one. Similar areas of discussion, but both ask different questions. :)
