I am hoping I can make it there in 2011-2012 for the 40th Birthday Celebration. I was there for 15 and 25. I will be turning 30 in December of 2011...so I can celebrate my birthday milestone with WDW!

I have the giant Eastern Airlines promotional poster...from the opening of WDW. I don't remember how I managed to get it...no airline connections, but it's a great poster. My children were ...well "4.5 and on the way" when the park opened, and the parade down Main Street was all characters, walking and waving, and sometimes inter-acting, right thru the castle. It was simple and sweet. Gosh I love that place.

Wow! I love hearing about everyone's memories of the early days of WDW. I was not born yet when MK opened, and I was 4 when EPCOT opened. However, I did not visit EPCOT until '92 and MK til '98.

I think Eastern Airlines was a sponsor back then. I remember they sponsored at one time the "If You Had Wings" ride. They could have given out promo posters at some time in the park.

I refuse to say how old I am (cough, cough), but I can say that I am definitely not the veteran some of y'all are. My first trip wasn't until '06. Going on my fifth trip in December. So I guess I could say that even though I haven't been around WDW all that long..... I GOT ADDICTED JUST AS QUICKLY AS I COULD!!!! :mickey:

When I first went to the Magic Kingdom, I believe the Contemporary was the only hotel there. That's where we stayed and even though I was a little tyke back then, I still have fond memories of it today . So much has changed over the years. :mickey:

The first time I went was as a 15 year old and the only thing was the MK. I think there were a couple of resorts, but I'm not sure.

There had to be a couple of resorts when you went. The Poly and Contemporary were both opened on opening day and Fort Wilderness was soon to follow. I would bet that those were the three that were around when you first went.

And the Disney Inn/Golf came around back then too. Many of the hotels in Lake Buena Vista also existed back then too (many were barely even finished when MK opened). Even after EPCOT opened it was a while before Disney went into the mass hotel construction.

I was a kid and my step-dad "wasn't gonna pay that kind of money just for a room!" I'm not complaining, we got to go to the Mk, Seaworld and a water park while we were in Orlando. I guess it was pretty much everything that was there at the time!

Now "WE" stay on property!! It's my money! ;+>

My Family wasn't rich enough to afford staying "on site" when I was a kid but I was fortunate enough to go a few times as a kid.. now that I'm a "big kid" I stay "on site" because as Jacca5660 stated "it's MY money" but I am greatful to my parents taking me when they did! :mickey:
I think we went the year after WDW first opened for our first visit.

I love my parents for taking me. We lived in Ft Myers at the time and went to Disney every time someone would visit. It got to the point as a teenager where I would ask "Do I have to go? I wanna go fishing, the beach, or with my friends". What a stupid kid!!

I would like to go to Magic Kingdom on 1st October 2011 and Epcot on 1st October 2012 just to see if Disney do anything special for the anniversaries?

Disney always celebrates anniversaries in a BIG way. I'm also looking forward to what they're gonna do!

Except EPCOT. How quickly we have forgotten the silver anniversary.
