I do agree that when you look at 180 days and realize that it is 6 months away from your arrival, it can be tough for some to know what they want to do on what days that far out.
Also, if you have to book an ADR that far ahead, you are pretty much dictating your touring plan based upon that ADR. For example, if you are having linch at Sci-Fi Dine in on a certain day, then you are going to DHS that day. You better feel up to going that day, and not have a bout of spotenaity <sp>, b/c you have that ADR that you booked.
If I knew I was traveling to WDW 180 days from today, which would be Feb. 17, 2010, At this moment, I could not tell you where I would want to eat for a dinner on Feb 20, 2010, let alone what park I would want to visit. Basically, my daily vacation plans are not foremost on my mind 180 days out as much as they are at 90 days out.
Having said that, It's too bad that Disney doesn't bring back the WorldKey Kiosks and hold aside 4-5 ADR's per hour for same-day ADR's. You know how sometimes you walk into Epcot and just feel like having a meal at Rose & Crown (or any table service for that matter). This would not shut out those who are planners and make ADR's well ahead of time, while still serving the guest who may have missed out, or a day guest has decided to eat there on a spur of the moment.
Unfortunately, no matter the policy, there will always be some issue to be had with it. And it is something we all have to deal with. It's the fact that some are more informed than others that give them the benefit no matter the booking window.

Are we there yet? When can we go back?
I don't know what's worse, the anticipation of going or the withdrawals after getting home.

If you call today it will still be 90 days...Figment of Imagination wrote:I also heard that the the 180 day were out, as of this year, it was short lived. and they went back to 90 days, maybe its an off season plan, the 180 days. I dunno though.
It starts on Oct 27th, so if you call on Oct. 27th or after, you can make reservations at 180 days. Does that make sense?
Agreed on the whole spontaneous travel issue. It would be great if a few spots were available on same day basis. I can't imagine knowing where I want to eat on some night in the middle of February.
Those world key satellites were great. I remember getting in line behind spaceship earth and talking to the nice cast member on the video screen and picking a place to eat.
I understand the need to plan but half a year in advance is extreme!

I think I like the 180 mark better...but it's b/c I hope I'll be able to get more of the reservations I want. I guess I figure less people will know about the 180 day thing, so I'll be able to get a head start on some people.
You can still be spontaneous as you could for the 90 day system - you still don't be able to get into Le Cellier or Ohana at the last minute, but there will still be plenty of places that you can get in.
We made a last minute reservation at Boma just two weeks ago & walked into Tusker House last week, so it depends where you want to eat I guess.

We barely got in. We were booking for the 90 days out for our arrival day. The day we got Le Cellier it was 91 days in advance and they were pretty much sold out.Mr.ToadWildRider wrote:We got ADR for Le Cellier...although it was 90 out.

It is good - that's why its so hard to get a reservation! But if you ever check for dinner & they're booked, try for lunch.MetalRage wrote:I always wanted to eat at Le Cellier but never had the chance. It always smells so good as we walk by. One day i WILL eat there =).
The ones that seem to book up waaaay in advance will be Le Cellier, Chef Mickeys & Ohana...if you want to eat at those places, you can't just be spontaneous, they will book up at 180 days out.
