We will be there for the last day of the Food and Wine festival but wont be there for the Christmas party. we are going early November
I believe the Christmas Party starts on Nov. 10th, but its $59 per person over the age of 10. That's the only reason I haven't done it, I can't justify paying that for less rides, less and less free giveaways (so I'm told), and a modifed fireworks display that I can see from the 'Ohana.
I was there in '07 for the last day of the Food and Wine Festival, remember that you can use your snack allowances at the booths if you have the dining plan. You'll also get to see all the Christmas decorations and lights. It's the best of both worlds! No Hannah Montana quote intended.

My family and myself have been staying at Riverside since 1995 back in the good old days when it was known as Dixie Landings to the present day, it is a fantastic resort and there is lots to do, there are many pools to choose from all within walking distance, you can go fishing, hirer surrey bikes and normal bikes, take a ferry boat to downtown, go on a horse and carriage ride around the resort in the evenings, there is an arcade for the kids if they want, artists in the early evening time include a characturist , someone who braides hair as well as a bar with live entertainment. The food court has lots of choice and seating and there is also a sit down restaurant serving southern food called Boatwrights, the resort is in walking distance of it's sister 'French Quarter' which also have a food court which sells different types of food to Riverside and usually in the evenings has Jazz entertainment, French Quarter no longer has a sit down restaurant though. Riverside is also great for walks and wildlife spotting where I have seen animals such as otters and armadillo's over the years as well as many other animals and birds. Depending on what part of riverside you are staying either magnolia bend with it's antibellum mansions or the bayou with it's rustic charm all the rooms are spacious and not far from bus stops or the main building/reception. The closest attractions to Riverside include downtown/marketplace/west side, typhoon lagoon and the nearest themepark is probably Epcot. We've always loved riverside and have never wanted to change resorts, although we still visit others for evening meals and a change from the parks (Kona Cafe is great at the Polynesian!). Hope you enjoy your stay and that I have given you some info perhaps you didn't know

Ok, so this is a new decision for us. We'll be staying at Riverside early next year and don't know where to stay - bayou or mansions?! Any tips or opinions??

How exciting Esmeralda! I've stayed in both the bayou and manions, both are nice. I would have a hard time choosing one over the other. I don't think you will be disappointed either way!!!

Esmeralda, the rooms are the same size and layout in both places. The decor differs between the two. My wife and I have stayed at the Riverside 8 times and we have always enjoyed the resort and its many amenities.

Having stayed there a few times he's right. Rooms are the same, just themed differently. Originally, it was Port Orleans and Dixie Landing, two separate hotels, but they merged them both into being just Port Orleans. But all the rooms were built with same layout and given different decors.

I've never stayed in the bayou part, but loved the mansions enough to stay there a couple of times. I also like the French Quarter, but I think Riverside and Ole Man Island blow it away. There is so much to that resort that I don't think you can go wrong, wherever you stay. It's one of my favorites.

Well, you folks are absolutely no help
Seriously, sounds like we'll be good wherever we decide to stay. Can't wait to see the mansions or the bayou!

I've only stayed at the Port Orleans main hotel and it's amazing, but many people I know stay at Riverside. One family I know has stayed there every year for 12 years now, they have gotten to know all the staff as if they're friends. And, of course, they've gotten to know Yehaa Bob well. Don't miss him if you do stay there.

22 more days and we'll be staying at Riverside. First time staying there, have stayed at French Quarter before. Been over to "Dixie Landings" before but never stayed over night. Looking forward to it. Magnola Bend.

You can't miss with the Mansions/Magnolia Bend! In fact I'll go a step further and suggest to get in Magnolia Terrace if available. MT provides the most convenient location to the East Depot/Bus Stop and shortest walk to the main pool and restaurants:

PORiverside was the resort that started it all for my wife and I. It was our second honeymoon (after getting hurricane'd out of Jamaica the year prior). Not having a ton of expectations because we've both never been to WDW as adults. From the moment we arrived to our first trip on the boat to DTD, I was completely hooked! I hope you have the same fantastic experience that we did!

I think my fiance and I will be staying at Riverside for our honeymoon in late August. We were thinking about staying in a deluxe resort but this one has so much charm, is centrally located to every park, and it's very reasonably priced. I stayed at French Quarter last year for the 2009 Marathon and loved it, but this one looks better for honeymooners. I found a good video on YouTube that someone recorded walking from the main building to her room in one of the mansions. It gave me a good idea of what it is like there.
We're very excited and hope we can get this booked soon!

Oh how wonderful this has got to be the perfect place for a honeymoon. Quite surroundings, nice boat trip to DTD , and of course the horse and carriage ride around the resort which I believe can be tailored to your needs (champagne and such).
We went last year for one week and will be there at the beginning of Feb this year for two weeks. We have been walking round most of the resorts and this one is by far my favourite.
