I believe there is a scene from Gone with Wind in the closing movie. About some movies being to graphic or horrific, you can get a feel for a movie without showing those scenes directly.Mr.ToadWildRider wrote:There's no Gone With the Wind clip in the opening. If there's any Gone With the Wind it's in the closing movie but I don't recall it being there either. Could you be thinking of Casablanca?jenhen27 wrote:You know I never put it together that the scenes from the queue area are scenes from the ride. But isn't Gone with the Wind in that movie? Is there a Gone with the Wind scene? I don't seem to remember that now. My brain is all fuzzy.

I am totally in favor of them updating this ride. I mean is there anyone still alive who remembers Busby Berkeley movies? Gene Kelley is dead and there are a whole slew of new musicals to choose from. I say take out the outdated Footlight Parade and Singing in the Rain, put in the greatest modern musical EVER...High School Muscial; leave Mary Poppins. For gangster movies, keep as is, Disney studios (or its subsidiaries) have not done a gangster movie in awhile. Western, John Wayne is still the Duke. Alien really isn't a representation of horror sci-fi, so replace that with WALL-E (gotta make Lasseter happy). Replace Indy with National Treasure, it is a newer Disney movie than Indy (besides Lucas has too much in DHS now). For Horror, Miramax did do Hellraiser and Halloween movies, it works better than dead mummies. Keep Casablanca, it's a classic. Tarzan replace with George of the Jungle; Brendan Fraser is more believable than Johnny Weismueller anyways. As for the Wizard of Oz, I think Narnia is a much better choice. Keep the first little scene with Dorothy et al looking at the Emerald City, but get rid of the next scene. It never made sense to me why they moved backwards through that movie. Put in some Narnia scene with the White Witch terrorizing the Narnians and have the tour guide or Aslan or something, make it more modern.
It really is a shame how Disney keeps trying to push all these old out-dated movies on our children. I mean come on, there are so many new movies that are more marketable than Tarzan, Singing in the Rain or Alien. It is time to Plus this attraction.

I can't tell if this is sarcasm or not? I don't think Disney is pushing old "out-dated" movies on children... High School Musical in TGMR seems like it would give the ride a misnomer... it is not a classic nor great- sorry to HSM fans!agingerbugg wrote:It really is a shame how Disney keeps trying to push all these old out-dated movies on our children. TGMR is supposed to be like a hall of fame in my opinion. You don't induct a player who still plays nor do you induct a musician who just debuted their first album this decade.

The ones listed in the finale that play in the queue are also noted as being in the ride. Fantasia plays in the queue, ride, and finale (the ballet scene plays in the finale) for example. Although I can't be certain as I don't recall 100% I'm fairly sure Oz plays in the queue, it's got a big scene in the ride, and then in the finale they play Dorothy saying "I don't think we're in Kansas anymore" as the montage enters the sci-fi genre.jenhen27 wrote:No, I'm certain it's in there somewhere. I remember the music. OK, off to do some internet recon.
ETA: It's listed as a film in the finale. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_Th ... Ride_films
Although some of those films listed in the finale play in the queue so I'm not sure.
On a side note to that list, they're missing Fist Full of Dollars/The Good, The Bad, and The Ugly from the list of those depicted in the ride. Clint Eastwood appears in his poncho lighting a cigarette by a saloon as you exit gangland and as the tour guide states, Clint and the Duke never starred in a movie together. They have The Searchers listed, which explaines John Wayne's appearance in the ride, but nothing for Clint.
EDIT:
I figured as much but I didn't want to assume sarcasm and a tongue in cheek response if you were being sincere.agingerbugg wrote:Yes, it is sarcasm; I forget that it doesn't convey well over the internet.

I was about to write this long post going line for line with your post. You're right sarcasm doesn't translate well on these boards. I could see updating the ride with some movies, but a lot of the movies portrayed aren't just classic movies, they're history.agingerbugg wrote:Yes, it is sarcasm; I forget that it doesn't convey well over the internet.
I must admit you line about HSM gave me a really good belly laugh! About replacing some of the movies with new movies....In the words of a humanities prof I had in college "there hasn't been a new drama written since the Bard".

After reading the posts along with my own, I should've added a 'middle/upgrade existing' option. I was going to look into it, but you beat me to it JS. Thanks!js3901 wrote:added the option for "Update existing content" as requested.

My personal opinion is a mix of what everyone has been saying. I feel some of the scenes could be replaced (Busby Berkeley's Footlight Parade, Alien, Tarzan, the horror scene) with some newer material. Licensing aside, perhaps ET, LOTRs, Titanic, Gone with the Wind, Saving Private Ryan, The Ten Commandments to name a few. Although, the more I think of Alien, the more I feel it's appropriate being one of AFI's top 10 sci-fi movies of all-time. Just update the scene itself. Sigourney Weaver's character needs some help. In terms of movie-genre (i.e. western, horror, mystery, comedy) I'd swap out the Public Enemy scene with something from the Godfather. Classics like Casablanca, Singing in the Rain, and The Wizard of Oz should definitely stay with some rehab. And why not include some sports related scene, Rocky perhaps? As far as Star Wars, HSM, or any other movie that's already represented in the park (makes me rethink the Indiana Jones scene), I wouldn't add.
I feel the advantage of this ride is that it will never lack material. It should continue to grow and be modified based on movies that influence multiple generations. Just my two cents...

I think you are straight on with what you have written. I sometimes have to remember that I get this "OH KNOW THEY"RE CHANGING SOMETHING AGAIN" attitude. I just get filled with trepidation when someone mentions that something is being changed in one of the parks. I don't think I need to go into how badly a lot have things have been changed it the parks since the 90's.PopCentury2007 wrote:After reading the posts along with my own, I should've added a 'middle/upgrade existing' option. When we have a talk about changing the Great Movie ride, well I just don't want to see it filled up with the newest flash in the pan, Disney is pushing it's newest and greatest property ride. It's scary to think how badly they could screw this up. I don't want to mention whats going through my head for fear that what's meant as humor could be come an idea for some Disney accountant, thinks he's an imagineer type. You can fill your on gag line. Please just don't write them down!
Let me also tell you that this ride has a lot of sentimental value to me (it actually brings tears to my eyes when I'm riding it.) It reminds of all the time I spent with my mom watching the old B&W movies. It was also her favorite ride. Since her passing a few ago, it become a way of remembering a very good time with her! ;+>

This is one of the few rides at Disney that I would actually enjoy an update to rather than staying with the original attraction. The cast members on this ride seem so bored and fed up with this show and I find it hard to believe that every single tour guides favorite genre is horror!

As a former Great Movie Ride Tour Guide/Gangster/Bandit I can honestly say it needs a major overhaul!!!
