This is so you get the preferred room rather than the standard room. Technically your not getting a better rate your just looking to get a free upgrade.

That's what I was thinking. This tip was from 05' that was the last time I used it at WDW. I recently used it when I traveled to Michigan.

Yeah I follow you now. I think we were talking about different things to start, giving the rates. I meant if you wanted to
book preferred locations or pirate themes or what have you, you're gonna pay more for it. If you can deal with maybe not getting it by waiting to negotiate for a check-in upgrade, then yes, you can definitely get a 'better' room without paying the premium.
I actually can't remember the last time I didn't get some kind of upgrade at check in, and I don't ask for them. But then again, I don't travel during 'busy' seasons so there's lower occupancy and more chance of getting those comp'd upgrades.
Actually that's not a bad tip either; you're more likely to get more than you paid for if you're there when the resorts are emptier. Which suggests all of this year will be good for upgrades.

I sure hope $180 - $195 for a mid-level room in October isn't the going rate or we'll have to scale back.
Usually, instead of spending the money on the top-of-the-line hotel, we stay at a mid-level so we can lengthen the stay. We may be shortening our vacation anyway!
Ahhhh!

I decided a longtime ago that I wouldn't stay in the Moderate or Deluxe hotels when going to WDW. I realized it was stupid for me to pay for a room there, THIS ISN'T MEANT TO INSULT ANYONE THIS IS JUST IN REFERENCE TO MYSELF ONLY, I only sleep at the hotel and use it for storage. Why was I paying for a place to sleep that was $50 more per night than the Value resorts? I stopped booking these resorts a while back, but I might return to them in future if I were to get a better job and could stay for longer. I think if I stayed longer I would want to spend a little more time at the resort. That would make it worth it for me......although I do miss Coronado Springs. For some reason I do like that place better than all the others.

I agree with Dr. Ravenscroft, it's just a place to sleep. The way we book our resort depends on what we plan on doing, if we plan to be at the parks most of our trip, we will book a moderate resort. If we plan to take a few days a chill at our resort, and actually enjoy what the resort has to offer, then we try to book a deluxe. But, it all depends on personal preference.
I do wish WDW could stop raising the room rates every year. It will just be too much after a while and that really upsets me.

that's pretty much the reason I booked Ft. Wilderness for our trip down there. I just need a place to sleep and shower. that, and I was out s job and nearly out of cash, so the cheapest way was to camp it...

I agree as well. I'm a blue collar worker and am lucky enough to live only about two hours from Disney. I would love to stay in the upper class resorts but they are out of my price range and getting worse. Besides I too only use them for sleeping. We don't spend much time at the hotel itself.
