"Clearly, MK is the more popular park to the general public and Animal Kingdom has costs that can't be eliminated in the upkeep and care of the savanah and animals as well as the keepers wages. You have to continue paying for Animal Kingdom."

JWG,

I respectfully disagree.

The AK requires the highest maintenance of all four parks. The other three they can shut off lights and lock the gates. At AK, those animals and areas require 24 hour work. You couldn't "just let the savanna go". It is groomed in such a way that it keeps natural enemies apart and from killing one another. It needs constant upkeep. AK is the most costly of the four parks for Disney to maintain.

That is what I was saying. That's why I wouldn't close it - because it's high cost to maintain so you keep it open because you can eliminate all the costs elsewhere (absent Nemo and the aquarium I suppose)

I say we close DHS down to two days ....the days Fantasmic will be running. Animal Kingdom we close and make for special parties only. ie really really rich people. thus they can add the disney night vision tours (segway for eyes) Then Epcot and MK stay open. they could always move the majority of the cool rides from DHS to Epcot, or sell off AK and open it as a Zoo...(imagine the commercials then....OK...it is a Zoo!)

Save: Magic Kingdom & Epcot
Why?: Walt's original ideas, duh!

Besides, DHS and AK aren't really Walt's, I'd say he probably would've done the same.

But I'm guessing that Walt never had to make up his mind on which parks to take down....

Not even a hard decision to me. Drop DHS and AK, save MK and Epcot. Reasoning? Aside from playing favorites - which I am - DHS and AK are barely 'full day' and-slash-or finished parks as it is. Lots more to see in the older parks.

I would first close Ak and sell off the animals. Ak is only a half day park anyway. I would also close MGM (yes I'll always call it that). As much as I love MGM, it's only a half day park also.
With what Disney is charging to get in the parks now, they're never gonna close anything. Look how long CA been open. They could always sell those two parks off to Comcast.

I read somewhere that to allow the building of Epcot, the original idea not just what it is now, Orange County said they wanted him to build a park there i.e. Magic Kingdom to allow the building of a community. So I agree keep those two. AK I really don't care for, it's nice and fun but hey if I never go there again no skin off my nose. MGM, again not calling it DHS lol, is great and would hate to see it leave. But if it must, it must.

I say though best scenario, close AK and both water parks to leave the three parks.

I am going to stick to my original idea, close AK and MGM/DHS/Whatever, leave MK and EPCOT. As far as the animals go, well, WDW can save money on their grocery bill.
They that can give up essential liberty to obtain a temporary safety deserve neither liberty nor safety.

I agree with most of the previous responses...keep MK and Epcot and dump AK and DHS. I think the reasons are pretty obvious. I wonder if this gives the decission makers for Disney something to think about. Maybe AK and DHS should receive a little more attention.

If we're including logistics and all that in the mix...

You cannot close Epcot because of the Monorail. The millions upon millions that have been invested in the Monorail should be enough to keep the MK and Epcot open.

Aside from that, Epcot brings the world together in the World Showcase and allows kids (and adults) to travel around the world in a single day. You cannot do that anywhere else in the world. You can have thrill rides anywhere...but not the World Showcase. And of course you can't get rid of the MK. It's the Disneyland of the East...and is honestly what the majority of people think of when they hear "Disney World." Heck...it IS Disney World. The rest of the parks have their own themes, but the MK is Disney through and through.
