Fluff of Disney
Moderator: Moderators
My original thought on alot of the "fluff" was the cheapness of adding it. obviously adding streetmosphere or jamitors doesn't cost Disney much and seemed an additional detraction to divert the crowd. taking a good look at it though i can see where alot of it is a good fit while is still see some as wasted time. like Mickeys Toon Town or Innoventions..laugh keep the comments flowing!

Amen to that! In that respect, Disney has stooped to the level of Six Flags. Hopefully, there won't be an "It's a Small High School Musical World"!Jacca5660 wrote:I think of FLUFF as all of merchandising at the end of the rides. It seems there are some rides (new rides mostly) that are just there to sell you something.
Also the fluff rides. The rides and shows where the only purpose are to market a movie or show. I'm waiting for Zack and Cody's Tower of Terror and Hanna's Rock and Roller Coast.

I like the fluff. I would agree that Disney adds it to maybe cut down on the lines, etc. but I also think that they do it to keep you entertained throughout your trip, whether you're trying to get to a ride, taking a stroll to "soak it all in," or just taking a couple of minutes to rest. You pay a lot for that vacation and they want you to get as much as you can out of it, in my opinion. I would also agree that Disney is becoming more and more commercialized, but when it comes to getting your money's worth, they do a pretty good job.
By the way, my favorite fluff is that tree lady that hangs out in AK. It's cool because you won't spot her until you actaully start looking or if there's a huge crowd staring at nothing.

Why won't Sub add the English Invasion to the play list?? It brings back great memories from my trips!Sleeping Beauty 5 wrote:Kcarts are you kidding? That may be true when you are in their respective lands. But, I don't think they add anything when you are standing in Germany or Japan and can hear the music blaring out. Just like how you probably wouldn't want to hear Adventureland music when walking through Tomorrowland.Sleeping Beauty 5 wrote:Kcarts are you kidding? Good "fluff":
-The Oasis at the AK
-The paths around the Tree of Life at the AK
-Everything on MainStreet USA at the MK
-Performers at every park (musicians, story tellers, etc.)
Bad "fluff"
-All of Mickey's Toontown Fair (except Barnstormer).
-Swiss Family Tree House
-Tom Sawyer Island
-Streets of America at DHS
-Narnia exhibit at DHS
-Fossil Fun Games at AK
I like everything at Epcot, and can't really find anything that would be "bad" fluff.

I really can't think of anything right now that I would consider "fluff". I think all of it contributes to the overall Disney experience in some way or another. For those of us that have visited countless times it's these little details and "distractions" that give us something new to consider where as we may have passed it over before. You have to remember that Disney is trying to appeal to the entire world because well...people from all over the world visit the Disney parks. What I like may be totally uninteresting to someone else while that person may love the things that I could do without. I think that most of the "fluff" you refer to is an attempt by Disney to create interaction with the crowds and break up the monotony of walking from one attraction to another with nothing in between. Sideshows, fluff, call it what you will but I think in MOST cases these things add to the overall park experience.

I completely agree with that statement - I couldn't have said it better myself! I think it goes with the old saying, "You don't know what you've got until it's gone."GhostHost wrote:I really can't think of anything right now that I would consider "fluff". I know that people may not enjoy these attractions, so they don't conrtibute anything to the park for those people, but they're certainly not detracting anything from the park, so i don't know how they can be considered "bad fluff"
I like ghosthost's interpretation

Well My DW and I visit for 2 weeks when we go and love to take it steady. We will only be outside of Disney for about 4 days so we have 10 days to take it easy and soak up the atmosphere. I love all of the "fluff" and IMO it's an essential part of the parks.
I personally can't think of the parks in the way that some people do especially when they say things like "this park is just a half day" or "we can DO that park in 1 day". I don't wish to "do" parks at all, I like to enjoy them. I think the classic example is how so many people "do" AK in a few hours. IMO they haven't done the park at all, they have ran around the park hitting the major attractions whilst choosing to ignore most of the theming and details. Each to his/her own and they are perfectly entitled to visit the parks in whatever manner they choose, it's just that I don't wish to visit the parks in that way.

1980, 2000, 2005 and 2008 all had plenty of magic. Hoping for a bit more in 2010.
