Those PICS are great...and yes the animals no exactly when it is dinner time, so they really go in on their own, before dusk....

Ha Ha, I never thought of that.........but did you notice the hidden mickey in the second pic? It is only visible from one side of the "mountain".

Thanks everyone for the praise, but I just got lucky on a few of the ones I took.

THANK YOU!!! My family thought I was going crazy when I pointed it out the night we were there. I thought it kinda looked like a mickey, but the rest of my family couldn't see it. So, I made sure that I got a turn with the camera and took a close-up just for them. They still deny that it's a hidden mickey, but I think they're just being stubborn   .

Okay, can someone please point out the alleged hidden mickey? I can't see it :(

Um, if it is where I think it is, then I don't know if I buy it.

They actually spent a whole night working on the lights to get it just right.

That is an awesome hidden mickey, I defnitely wouldn't have figured that one out. I really enjoyed Animal Kingdom at night, it just seemed so dark and mysterious.

Kali River Rapids was very interesting at night is all I have to say

I had always thought AK had tons of potential for the night with the lights by the Flame Tree BBQ, Asia, and Africa village areas. And now with the extra magic hours I have to say I love going there at night, it is a totally different experience. Plus from a photo perspective it is great, I was able to get a lot of shots that look totally different of the same areas just based on lighting.

And great find on the hidden Mickey!

For some reason, I always have a hard time taking night pictures on my digital camera but once again I'm not really a great camera person anyway so I'm sure it takes some kind of adjusting.

you just have to set it for "night shot" or "night mode". you'll need to have a tripod or something sturdy to set the camera on as there about a 10 second exposure time in night mode. don't have to worry about people walking through the shot so much, as they'll be blurred out, looking like ghosts.

Yea a tripod is critical for good landscapes at night, as js3901 said. Also using either a remote shutter release, or set your camera to timer mode, so you can hit the release, and have your hands OFF the camera when it snaps. Turn the flash off, because that will only confuse the auto exposure. And your flash isn't powerful enough to help.

As for a tripod, there are a number of good small ones out there. It means you have to find something to put it on, but there are lots of places at WDW to do that. The one I love is called the Ultrapod, http://www.rei.com/product/894.htm?vcat ... TRAVEL_TOC

It's cute because it's got a velco strap, and has a V-shape to it's legs so you can either set it up on a flat surface or strap it to a railing or a post. Or even another full sized tripod, yes I've done that so I can fix both my Video and still camera to the same tripod.

I like that one jcodirewolf, I think I may have to buy that. Not really as you say put it on something, but to get some interesting views from ground level. The only question I have is how is it for leveling? I can't see a bubble level on it so I guess I'm on my own to figure that out right? Of course anything can be modified, I bet I can get one on there somewhere, or at least carry one in my pocket and just put it on the top when I need it.

JS3901 can tell you this too, I have learned through trial and error to do things fast. Most of the shots I have taken were done in a matter of 30-60 seconds from the time I spot it to the time I close up the tripod. Yes I do take my time with many of them but most were done quick. I think the cave one was a quickie, and the pillar was too but it took longer than usual because I took pics of 2 different ones. Usually I took longer when JS was on a ride that way I didn't anger him with how long I was taking. :D

No bubble level on it. I mostly use it with my Canon SD450, and you can turn on a grid so I use that for leveling setup.

The other solution is post processing. Photoshop is your friend.

I've also used the ultrapod, for my video camera, and shot parades from ground level, it doesn't come out bad.
