You post is exactly why Siemens is now sponsoring Spaceship Earth. They felt they lacked an identity with the American public.packwingfn wrote:What exactly does Siemens sell and do?

It has been confirmed that the exit of the ride is going to be replaced to show Siemens' products. The "global neighborhood" will be changed to something different, something Siemens.
But should the ride get a face lift. I think we all agree that it should remain Spaceship Earth and not be changed to a roller coaster type ride. But some of the scenes (most of which can be found in the descent part of the ride) display non-futuristic event because we are already using most of these technologies. On one hand, you could say that these scenes are displaying today's technologies. But on the other, it's not showing what the future will look like... like it used to when the ride was created and updated.

Well, yah its not like the technology has changed for the romans... But an updated ending will be nice, though I like how the current one is done. And I cant even imagine Spaceship Earth bing like a roller coaster type ride... Though with World of Motion, could any of us ever imagine what it was going to be like now, 10 years ago.wess_80 wrote:It has been confirmed that the exit of the ride is going to be replaced to show Siemens' products. I don't think that SE, as big as it is, would fit any form of traditional rollercoaster. Plus, wasn't the current track built to support the structure of the sphere? I don;t think they could remove/replace the track to support a rollercoaster without tearing down the sphere and rebuilding it.
One more thing, I don't think a roller coaster would fit the theme of SE in ANY way. SE, even in the 80s, was meant to show how communication has evolved, and the possibilities for the future, hence it's presence in futureworld. one of the last pavillions to keep the theme of futureworld...

Last I heard, rumors were indicating that SSE was going down for a rehab either shortly after, or towards the end, of Haunted Mansion's rehab, with a change to the end. We all know the Global Neighborhood will be updated. But, the burning questions is, will Siemens want the wand to stay?
Again, this is just what I have read at various places, but it has been said by a few fairly reliable people around...I guess only time will really tell.

Agreed! That sure would make me feel kindly towards them. I'm still hoping to see that gone for the big 25 years.Cheshire Cat wrote:If siemen's is looking for publicity by sponsoring sse there's no better way for them to win people over than by being able to claim that they were the ones who convinced Disney to trash the wand.

They would get a lot of Disney fans' support, for sure. I am surprised though, that if it is coming down, we haven't really seen or heard anything definite yet. Especially with EPCOT's 25th getting closer...Cheshire Cat wrote:If siemen's is looking for publicity by sponsoring sse there's no better way for them to win people over than by being able to claim that they were the ones who convinced Disney to trash the wand.
I would be interested to know what type of switchgear is currently being used inside SE. I don't recall right now what it is but it would be funny if Siemens is sponsoring the ride and the whole deal is run by SquareD or Cutler Hammer switchgear!
