Re: Avenge the Monorail!!!
Hubby and I were talking about this last night. He has a pic of a Cars-themed wrap on one of the monorails (at DLR I think?). We agreed that we don't mind wraps that have something to do directly with Disney - a new Pixar movie, perhaps, or a re-release of a classic Disney movie. But we don't like the idea of crossover, regardless of how awesome Hubby and the kids find Ironman to be. FWIW, I like Ironman, too, just not enough to LIKE the stories.

Re: Avenge the Monorail!!!
I thought the Cars wrap at DL was cute. I've never seen the movies, but I found the little faces to be adorable. I can take or leave the wraps at WDW. I haven't been a big fan of them so far, but they don't really bother me all that much either.cy1229 wrote:Hubby and I were talking about this last night. Re: Avenge the Monorail!!!
The cars wrap on the DLR monorails was actually quite annoying as well. Not only did they add the wraps, but they changed the voices of each monorail. I personally would have been happier had those been left untouched as well!

Hmmmmmmm, makes you wonder what they will wrap next to promote movie? The castle at MK? After all, they turned into a pepto-bismol colored cake in the past, so why turn it into a massive ad for a movie someday? It makes you wonder what they'll do next for an advertisement promotion...

Re: Avenge the Monorail!!!
I actually liked the 25th Anniversary castle. Though I wouldn't want to see it as a reoccurring theme, mind you.

Re: Avenge the Monorail!!!
The first time I ever saw the castle as a kid was the 25th anniversary. And I have fond memories of it. So all the bashing has always been pointless... It was all in good fun, like the monorail wraps. A little advertising that isn't hurting anyone.

As much as I hated the Pepto-Castle...I'm glad I got to see it in person.

Likewise for me. The first time I went to WDW it was for the 25th anniversary. Pepto castle was actually kind of cute and it was really only advertising the park's anniversary as opposed to the monorail wraps that advertise for another part of the Disney company.Soarin08 wrote:The first time I ever saw the castle as a kid was the 25th anniversary. Re: Avenge the Monorail!!!
Okay, I think the point I was trying to get to is being missed here: what's "off-limit" to be used in commercialism? We know they'll wrap the castle because it's been done in the past - would they do it to promote a movie? What else would they do it too?
And is it is just limited to Disney Corp? Disney has advertised other companies through sponsorship of different attractions and parades. Would they be willing to do a non-Disney commercial wrap?

The limit is what walt did. So anything up to and including saying the brand name 50 times in a song is acceptable.

Re: Avenge the Monorail!!!
The limit in all honesty will be to keep going until the people stop coming and the profits take a huge dive (or the parks are in the red).Wizzard419 wrote:The limit is what walt did. So anything up to and including saying the brand name 50 times in a song is acceptable.
I seriously think we are heading towards further commercialization in the parks. They are already showing the signs of this with the opening of Starbucks locations in place of generic bakeries. Sponsorships on attractions will continue and I do think it will go more towards the World's Fair where the attraction is made more for the company. We already did that with Test Track if you really want to think about it.

Are you forgetting Coke's spot there at EPCOT or McDonald's spot in the Animal Kingdom (which I think recently closed)?

I believe McDonalds has been out of the parks for about 4-5 years now. Not sure if they still have their name on the dino play place in the Animal Kingdom or not though.mindflipper wrote:Are you forgetting Coke's spot there at EPCOT or McDonald's spot in the Animal Kingdom (which I think recently closed)?
Here is a nice link to a Yesterland article with the McDonald's history... http://www.yesterland.com/mcwdw.html
