The original backlot tour was timed at about 2 hours. After the tram section, you were able to walk through some sets. One of the displays was the bee from Honey I shrunk the Kids to show off green screen effects. When the Studios was an actual operating backlot, people were able to watch filming behind a soundproof glass.

Which still wouldn't be entertaining by today's standards as it tells no story and isn't engaging (AKA it speaks at you, not to you). Universal has also realized this for USH (which I think still does some production on it) and has scaled back the tour).

Was just going through old pictures today and came across the one where my cousin was chosen to do the "Honey I Shrunk the Kids" bee set! I was so envious!!! I used to think the Backlot Tour was super cool. I will miss it!Cardinals314 wrote:The original backlot tour was timed at about 2 hours. That's the telling statement right there. A backlot tour is much more special when it's actually a tour of a backlot. Without active production, it's a museum tour. What's perhaps my favorite part lasts only a few seconds, and that's glimpsing the people working in wardrobe.Cardinals314 wrote:When the Studios was an actual operating backlot, people were able to watch filming behind a soundproof glass.
Hoping to go back to the Magic soon.

I hope they move all the Star Wars props if the new Star Wars land, if they are indeed making that. I will miss one thing more than the others though...seeing the Flight of the Navigator ship! lol. I always wanted to be picked to be the person that Captains the ship and has all the water dumped on them, but one f my friends did that recently and even with the rain gear on she was drenched, so I'll pass! lol

I was the Captain once and I really didn't get very wet. I was very careful to do all the buttons on the rain gear and cinch the hood tight like the CMs told me to do though.yodiwan1 wrote:I hope they move all the Star Wars props if the new Star Wars land, if they are indeed making that. Amy, nope, bdude has never seen Fantasmic! I can't say it's one of my favs and we never want to take the time to wait for it! We like to hit all the attractions while everyone is in Fantasmic!
But, perhaps this time?!
I always love seeing the people working on costumes etc...the last time we were there, they were doing woodworking, probabaly some type of props? It was cool. Also love Flight of the Navigator! I was always shocked that they just left Walt's plane sitting out there! I wonder what will become of that? I always thought they should give tours of the inside, or have it opened up! Sad they are just letting sit out in the FL weather. I would think it has sentimental value! Walt himself traveled in it!

My DW hasn't seen Fantasmic! either. I've seen it 3 times...before we got married...so on our trips together there wasn't any real reason for me to want to watch it...when we could either get a nice meal or hop to another park.boilerbabe wrote:Amy, nope, bdude has never seen Fantasmic! And I'm guessing some of the show with the loud explosions will be too loud for your little one when you go...might be awhile before your wife gets to see Fantasmic.theBIGyowski wrote:My DW hasn't seen Fantasmic! either. Re: Disney Hollywood Studios Expansion Rumored
Add me to the list of people who could take or leave Fantasmic, and would leave it if pressed into a decision. It just didn't do anything for me, and that we had to get there so freakishly early to have any hope of seeing anything, even with "reserved" seating attached to our dinner, it was just a silly waste of time when we could have been on RnR or ToT.Amy wrote:And I'm guessing some of the show with the loud explosions will be too loud for your little one when you go...might be awhile before your wife gets to see Fantasmic.theBIGyowski wrote:My DW hasn't seen Fantasmic! either. Thanks for this post! I have a dusty old VHS tape that my grandfather recorded of me at maybe 7 years old, as one of the two kids that volunteered for the bee sequence. I completely forgot this was part of the Backlot Studio Tour til I saw it here.Cardinals314 wrote:The original backlot tour was timed at about 2 hours.
