If this is true then yes, it is disappointing. Although, I'm heading down in January and was looking forward to SM being open not so much for the ride but just to hear the Star Tunnel music! There is just something about hearing it as you walk through the labyrinth walkway to the ride.

Hmmmm....I'm really hoping we're not disappointed when we go next month. I hope they didn't mess up the queue or the music. I really thought they were going to make the cars like the ones in DL instead of leaving them the single seaters. I guess we'll find out soon!

They did such a great job with the HM refurb, I was hoping for the same with SM as well.

Well, when you look at the Haunted Mansion refurb, they only really gave everything a polish, improved the audio, and updated the effects in the one room. After all, since Space Mountain is already so loved and appreciated, does it need anymore than that? Why are people judging the update when nobody really knows whats been done yet?

EDIT - AAAaaaand here's more. http://disneyparks.disney.go.com/blog/2 ... surprises/

I'm not judging...I love the attraction and would've been fine if they did nothing to it! They didn't really change alot about HM, true, just made it better in my opinion. I'm hoping for the same with SM. I enjoyed the queue, I just hope they didn't ruin anything, that's all.

I really wish I wasn't roller coaster phobic so I could enjoy Space Mountain. I've been to WDW something like 15 times and the only time I've even been inside SM was on the TTA.

Well, it was a little more than updating effects in just one room:
The effects were updated in the stretching room, as well as improve the audio.
The hallway of portraits was changed to have a window on one side, and portraits that changed with the flash of lightning.
The room after the music room but before endless corridor - the staircase with spider webs - was changed into an Escher-like room of staircases in all directions.
Before entering the endless corridor, a new effect was added with watching eyes that matched the upstairs hallway wallpaper.
Madame Leota's crystal ball can float around the room, whereas before it was stationary on top of the table in the seance room.
In the attic, the entire area was re-done to add the black widow bride Constance and the wedding portraits of her and her dearly departed grooms, first installed at Disneyland.
The improved audio can work along the entire track throughout the entire ride, so the HM can become the HMH in the future, if management decides.

As you can see, the Haunted Mansion refurb did alot to change the mansion, and not just in one room.

Back to this topic:
And I'm to be impressed the added interactive games to the queue line in Space Mountain? People don't pay attention to when queue line moves forward now, but we're going to give the reason to sit there and not move forward - because they're playing a game??

I can't wait for someone to have a real report on this. I get so tense when Disney touches something classic. They have a very mixed report card. You don't ever know what they're gonna do with something. Are they just gonna update something or is some corporate geek gonna try and put his or her mark on Disney?

Well we all knew that going into this that the update had the potential to be disappointing when being compared to the one that went on at DL. When the economy slipped, Disney had to scale back on everything and unfortunately this was one of the things. Let's just hope that the surprises they talk about are good. The pictures of the new queue do look promising. I do like that they threw in enough "disneyphile" references. Should be interesting to read the reviews.

Not to mention that DLs Space was closed for years being updated, this one was closed for a little over half a year...

Well, at least when they demolished the old Skyway Express terminal, they left the restrooms intact! Those are some seriously busy/popular restrooms in Tomorrowland! A small silver lining...

Quick update on SM: The wall barriers have been down since yeterday. No word on being "open" yet, but it's progress :-)

As long as Star Tunnel remains, I don't care what else happens.

My guess is: Indiana Jones and the Temple of the Forbidden Eye? Oh wait, this isn't the "DLR Attraction Quotes" game.
