Re: Rides That Need To Be Renovated
Snow White's Scary Adventure will be going away with the Fantasyland Expansion project currently under way. Instead it will be...a princess meet & greet area. Does that make you any happier? Someone posted some links to the concept art over in the Fantasyland Expansion forum topic thread.
Re: Rides That Need To Be Renovated
I heard the same thing about the foundation problems. That was one of the reasons they razed the building instead of just renovating it.mindflipper wrote:(1) decrease in visitor trafficAmy wrote:What sort of problems did Horizons have mindflipper? I don't know that I have ever heard that before...mindflipper wrote:Horizons had loads of problems that combined ended that attraction's life. Unlike the other rides you mentioned such as POTC and SSE, World of Motion just didn't have the crowds. JII had also lost visitor traffic too. I don't think it would had mattered who was in charge at TDO - these attractions had to be replaced with something that would draw better crowds...
(2) roof problems (unconfirmed)
(3) foundation problems (unconfirmed)
(4) too expensive to upgrade the outdated/stale show (like how outdated CoP is)

I don't think Mission: Space could have fitted in the same spot as Horizons, so the building would had to be demolished any way. Mission: Space with its centrifuges would have required a much different foundation than Horizons.

Re: Rides That Need To Be Renovated
That and the building design was no right for the ride.
With the mechanisims themselves, did they put a partial/fully built system in through the roof/built it before the room was built? Or did they build the room and hydraulics (which usually go underground) and then put in the arms/cars?

I've never seen the building diagrams for Mission: Space, so I can't answer that question. I just remember when the ride opened there was an engineer on TV telling how the ride needed a specially re-enforced foundation due to the centrifuges.Wizzard419 wrote:That and the building design was no right for the ride.

Does anyone know if the centrifuges were pre-assembled (in part or whole) and then placed into the building, or where they built part by part inside the building?

I wonder if the arms and whatnot come off for routine service since there are those massive roll-up doors in the exit hallway?
I wonder if Floirda lacks the awesome/economy harming tax breaks of California when it comes to rennovation vs. new building?

Everyone is free to have their own opinions...but wow.disneygirl223 wrote:Hmmmm.... let me think....
1. Prince caspian. Whats the point?!?!
2. Dinosaur. Too jerky. Too fast.
3. Stitch's great escape. Its weird.
4. Space mountain. Its just Rock'n roller costar in the dark.
5. The Primevil whirl. Jerky, no point, dosen't really do anything.
6. Carousel of progress. Its just downright weird.
7. Studio Backlot tour. Kids don't enjoy it!!!
8. Great movie ride. BORING!!!
9. Snow white's scary adventures. Isn't snow white sopposed to be a nice pretty princess???
10. Honey, I shrunk the kids playground. Its just a waste of space and money.
Hey, I LOVE disney. I'm not being negitive about Disney at all!!!
I would have to agree with you for the most part though. As far as Space Mountain goes...it was way before Rock'n Roller Coaster and the two are only similar in that they are both in the dark. RnR is great...but it is soooo short that it's almost not worth riding if you have to wait over an hour. Trust me...I've been there and done that.

You are right, RnR is really short! It would be interesting to see a photo of it with the lights on to see what it actually looks like...theBIGyowski wrote:...I would have to agree with you for the most part though. I think it's the downside to having a roller coaster that goes so fast...it is over in no time at all. The top speed is 60 MPH...which I am guessing is right at the beginning. The whole ride lasts just over a minute and the track is only a mile long.Amy wrote:You are right, RnR is really short! Space Mountain only goes 28 MPH and the track is longer. So while it is less intense than RnR...you get more time to enjoy it.
Now...DLR's Space Mountain is very similar to RnR...by design after it's latest refurb.

Sounds like DLR's Space Mtn is more like DLP's Space Mtn now...theBIGyowski wrote:I think it's the downside to having a roller coaster that goes so fast...it is over in no time at all. Re: Rides That Need To Be Renovated
Nah, the only stuff they did in the last big refurbishment was make it darker and redo the queue areas. Oh and apparently rebuilt an exact replica of the track (so it would be smoother). They did try out Rock'n Space Mountain in 07, but apparently it didn't go over too well with the bulk of guests.

The speakers never worked when I was out there riding it. I was real excited the first time since SM in WDW didn't have onboard speakers, but then there was no music anyhowWizzard419 wrote:Nah, the only stuff they did in the last big refurbishment was make it darker and redo the queue areas. What's the point to having on-board speakers? How can you hear the music over everyone screaming?

Oh trust me, on California Screamin', they've got the tunes pumped up. Kind of like on RnR coaster too. The music is loud enough to be heard over the screaming guests! Although the last few times I rode Cali Screamin', my train's speakers weren't working eithermindflipper wrote:What's the point to having on-board speakers?
