I find it interesting that they kept the California footage, but felt it necessary to change the name of the ride, omitting the "Over California" part...

Unfortunately, I am sure that ultimately it was the almighty dollar that swayed the decision. I am sure the imagineers had thoughts of doing new footage but they were probably overruled by corporate types that wanted a new attraction done quickly and inexpensively.

Actually, that's not what I'm curious about... keeping the footage made perfect sense, as Soarin' was Epcot's addition "from another park" for the 50th anniversary... so it had to be a copy in order to stick with that theme (like Cinderellabration, Buzz Lightyear's Astro Blasters, etc)... so why the name change? Quite frankly, as a born-and-bred, dyed-in-the-wool, proud-as-all-hell Californian, it's vaguely insulting to take a ride that shows the great wonders, both natural and man-made, of my beloved Golden State, but pull the name off the ride, as if you might be "Soarin'" any old place.

From what I understand they are planning on making a new movie based in Florida in about 2 years... so that is probably why they did the name change.

Fooey I say. It's Soarin' Over California now.. if they changed it, they could always change the name to Soain' Over Florida... anyway, it's not like I'm real up in arms over this or anything, it's just something I look at with a raised eyebrow and a smirk, is all...

This has GOT to be WDW's best ride yet! I do not like heights, but this ride is so soothing that you don't even notice that you are up in the air. As a matter of fact, they turn out the light before the ride goes up to it's operating height. I think the first row is 45' in the air. And once the show is over, they turn down the lights again as they lower the cars, so you really don't have that scary {in my opinion} feeling of being off the ground. Only problem is that it is too short. I think maybe 3 or 4 minutes total, but the sensation is unbelievable! Can't wait till December to ride again.

When I rided-it in July passed, I tell-me that : WHY Disneyland Resort Paris doesn't want to make an attraction like that !? On the point of view quality ...
So, it was realy beautiful and never I can forget this sensations of fly ! Like my dreams ... :)

I absolutely loved this ride. I went with a friend who is a mightly big chicken and she absolutely loved it. If you are a afraid of the height, ask to sit in the last row. The first row goes the highest. This ride is smooth and great for all ages!

I rode this ride using Fastpass. I'm glad I did, because I think I would have been disappointed had I waited in line for an hour or more. It was a nice ride, and pretty interesting. My dad and I were fortunate enough to end up in the top row (so we couldn't see any "feet" hanging over us, from what I've heard of the other rows).

It was nice and "peaceful", but I don't think I'd wait a long time to do it again. That's just me, though. My husband won't do it at all as he's very afraid of heights.

Hey I don't rememer. When you are moved into the waiting que, which rows take which seats? I mean, if your in the first row, do they get the first seats that go the highest? Or is it vice versa?

If I remember correctly, I think we were all the way toward the wall in the farthest "gathering bin" (if that makes sense).

Closest to the wall gets top, middle row middle, and the row against the fence gets bottom. The closer to the center of the ride the better!

Is it just me or does the Soarin' building seem to disturb the atmosphere of the Canada pavillion?

Last May on our last trip we got to do this ride.. We ended up riding it 3 times over the week we were in Disney. My wife and I both loved it.. Epcot has the best rides of any park now.. Test Track (Even though I really miss WOM) Mission: Space (Even though I really miss Horizons) and now Soarin. And don't forget Spaceship earth.

Epcot is by far our favorite park. I love them all but Epcot stands out.. We love staying at the boardwalk cause we can walk right into Epcot almost anytime we want.
