Animation Academy

Post by theBIGyowski » Mar Wed 18, 2009 2:21 pm

On my last trip to WDW I got to take part in the Animation Academy. I think I have seen someone post on here about it, but was wondering if you guys wanted to share which character you got to draw and maybe post an image of it. I am working on getting mine scanned in so I will provide a picture later.

My character though was Goofy! :goofy_bounce:

My sister and I discovered the Animation Academy on our last trip and LOVED it!! We spent much of our day at DHS there and got to draw Goofy, Minnie, Donald (twice!), Stitch, Pooh, Pluto and maybe one more. After I drew each one, I took a picture of it and I have them on my computer at home - I'll post them when I get home tonight.

I also loved it because between classes, we were able to get pictures with a bunch of characters with usually no line! We got pictures with the Incredibles, Frozone, characters from Robin Hood, Jafar, Bolt, Mary Poppins, Geppetto, the Evil Queen, and the Queen of Hearts. It was really nice because they joked around with us a lot more since there weren't tons of people waiting to see them.

My father and I took part in the Animation Academy in 2005 and we had a blast! We got to draw Donald and I think they turned our alright for a couple of first timers. But, if we had known we could have stayed longer, we would.

QuickGold from over at WDWtoday podcast loves that place. I think he did and interview with a guy that used to work there, let me see if I can find it.

Here is my Goofy! I had so much fun. Can't wait to get back down there and try some other characters! I grew up wanting to be a Disney animator...so this was a dream come true for me!

Wow, those are some impressive drawings! My DH and I discovered that spot when we were there 10/07. We absolutely LOVED it! I thought our drawings turned out good, but not as professional as the ones I've seen on here. :)

When we were there, it was still MGM, so our paper is now a treasured souvenier!

I think Disney uses brain washing and mind control because I know I don't draw well and both times I have attended this "class" I drew amazingly well. I'll have to see if I can post my drawings. :mickey:

Is this activity first come first serve or are reservations required? :mickey:

There is a small queue for it inside of "The Magic of Disney Animation" area. I want to say it is right next to the area designated for character meetings and photos. You might have to wait if the queue is full...but I think it is definitely worth it. You get to draw your very own Disney character and take it home with you...for free!
