Imagineer for a day

Post by Peerless83 » Mar Sat 21, 2009 1:02 am

If you were hired as a chief imagineer for the day..and given an unlimited budget...what would you develop for WDW and where would you put it?

Cutting edge alternative fuels and power generation exhibit/ride. Epcot. Pick your own area for this :) (Bye Ellen)

An exhibit/ride showing the newest and forthcoming medical advances. Epcot. A newer updated bodywars. How about in the old bodywars?

AK needs a "Sea World"

Tomorrowland needs some tomorrow stuff. Lets have a go at getting those petrol powered speedway drivers into something newer and greener (and quieter!). How about Hydrogen Fuel Cell elecrtro cars, and if we can get them to hover so much the better.

And of course the fabled super monorail loop to AKL, AK, All Star, Coronado and DHS.

These are the first ones that just pop into my head.
Hire me I have many many more :)

i agree with the super monorail loop.

i think the first thing i would do is use the space in fantasyland that used to be 20000 leagues. i used to hear rumblings of a little mermaid attraction, to be tied in with the grotto, but that was a while ago.

i would also do away with honey i shrunk the audience. it is so outdated. most kids have no idea what that is.

also, take more room for pixar in DHS (in lieu of spreading around all of the parks). backlot space could be used for another ride (or two), and the honey i shrunk the kids playground could be rethemed to a bugs life, which should be very easy.

I would probably work on the mythical land originally proposed for Animal Kingdom. I think it was titled Beastly Kingdom. That could be fun.

I would definitely try to get the monorail all over WDW. With DHS so close to Epcot, it seems like it could be the easiest to include. You would just have a switch that put it on a different track when it approached the Epcot area...and take it to DHS. You could also upgrade the Epcot station and make it a launching point for the monorail to DHS. AK would be a little more difficult...but doable I think.

As far as Future World in Epcot...you have a giant canvas to work with. I think a ride like Horizons that showed the possibilities of tomorrow would be a huge hit. As much as I love Ellen's Energy Adventure (and I do) it would be nice to see something that focused on how we got energy (already does this) and where we can go with energy in the future (not enough of this). I'm not a big "green pusher" but I do care about my planet and more importantly...my local "world" when it comes to pollution. So cleaner energy and more affordable energy would be something this area could promote.

Just a few ideas. Definitely want to make Future World into what it was originally supposed to be though!

I have actually heard that a monorail system is actually being discussed from WDW to Vero Beach. Has anyone else heard that?

I doubt that this will happen. if they can't "afford" to build the extensions to AK or MGM (DHS), I doubt they'd go from Orlando to Vero Beach - over 100 miles away. when they were built, the tracks cost about $1Million per mile. that was in 1971. with the cost of inflation...

The question is "FOR A DAY?" I thought about this for a long time. It's very limited by the time you're given. If you only have a day you don't have the time to develop a venue or bring one back from the past. I think I figured out one thing you can do in a day and make an impact on the quality of the parks.

I'd sit down with the maintenance staffs and find out what they need. I have a very close friend that's been on the the tech staff at EPCOT for almost 20 years (actually right at 19) and all I here about is how Disney puts all this money into developing a venue and doesn't budget any thing for up keep. Well in a one day period I could order everything the maintenance departments from the parks need for years to come. I would fill warehouses up with everything they could think of. This way instead of them just knowing what needs to be done and not having anything to do it with, it would just be a matter of getting the items out of their stocks.

Good idea Jacca.

Can anyone imagine how amazing it would be if you could go back in time and spend a day with Walt in Disneyland?

I'd just like to point out that none of this stuff is pie-in-the-sky wackiness. We should be expecting all of this from Disney.

Proper transportation, maintenance, attractions that have been destroyed, and attractions that we were promised are what we're dreaming about?

Seems like someone at Disney is asleep at the switch.

Mostly what others have said. Fix Future World, extend the monorail system to the other parks (although I'm not sure the monorail thing is within the purview of Imagineering). Also, I would take Gilbert Gottfried out of the Tiki Room and make it more like the Disneyland version, and I would update the final scene of the Carousel of Progress.

Oh, and I would have a minion run over to the MK and fetch me an Ariel
