If they need to address preventative maintenance items and do mechanical upgrades then I am all for that. However, I enjoy the ride as it is now, even with the "1970's" feel as someone suggested it has. Some of us were born in the 1970's and remember Space Mountain the way it was when it opened. Keep the modern coaster rides for new attractions and leave the classic ones alone. I guess if you have no frame of reference or nostalgia for classic Disney then it's easy to jump on the bandwagon of change but I for one believe that these things have been a success for all these years for a reason. Why would you want to mess with that? If it's not broke then don't fix it.

Kind of ironic because most of the reasons presented by posters in this thread for an overhaul is that it does break down.GhostHost wrote:If it's not broke then don't fix it.

As was mentioned before, I'd be ok with some minor 'plussing' of the ride. But a major overhaul like changing the entire ride, I'd be disappointed to see.

I don't know when I'll be back to wdw... maybe not for another year or 2... but I just really hope if this is true that they have it completed before i'm back... or don't start it till i'm gone.. I hate when major rides are down while i'm visiting.. just being greedy.. cause i am all for updates on any rides...

Space Mountain could use some mechanical and visual effects upgrades. Aside from that, the ride is fine as it is. I really hope they don't add Michael Giacchino's atrocious score, as it takes away from the ride's mysterious allure. If they add an on-ride soundtrack, I would prefer something in vein of Edgar Varese or Holst's The Planets.
Best idea I have heard out of this thread yet.BirdandRobot wrote: If they add an on-ride soundtrack, I would prefer something in vein of Edgar Varese or Holst's The Planets.

I personally really enjoy the soundtrack that it has right now, it does not need any changing.BirdandRobot wrote:Space Mountain could use some mechanical and visual effects upgrades. I don't know, I'm on the fence about a SM upgrade. On the one hand, I enjoy the classic coaster feel of it, bumps and all, but it could use some sprucing up. I guess riding DL's version spoiled me last summer and I'm eager to see how a WDW version of that would pan out. I know I would appreciate the lower lighting levels, for one.

I would really miss the music above all else if changes were made but if they do change that I still like BirdandRobot's suggestion for a new soundtrack.

As one who has been able to experience the new version in DL, I can only hope they make the one in WDW close to it. If it is only down for one year, not sure what they will be able to though. DL took 2 years and that included track replacement. WDW has two tracks and the rumors are for one year. I know that at DL they did so much more then just the track but it is tough to see what they can do in only one year.

If WDW is to "refurbish the ride" leave alone the music because the music is classic and some of us want to keep a part of the original ride. just do over the track so the rides goes smoother and possilby some scenery key word some. becasue over the years as you visit Disney World you kind of can picture space mountain in your head if i where to say it. But if they where to totaly redo it it would be like taking away a part of you.
