From this book:

A rose is often placed in front of the Master Gracey tomb at the entrance. This recognizes the work of Yale Gracey, who led the special effects design team.

I remember seeing the rose over the past 5 years or so on various trips. Sometimes it's there, sometimes it's not. Sometimes it's fresh and sometimes it's withered and dieing. Like DisBeamer said, it has a lot to do with what cast members are working and if they remember or take the time to place the rose. I think it's little things like this that add a nice touch to the attractions. This is why Haunted Mansion is one of my favorites because it's so well themed and even the cast members are having fun being in character.

I really enjoyed the new stairs as well! It has been qutie a while since we went on this ride. It was closed last August during our trip. My son was a bit worried about the ride but ended up enjoying it! He didn't care for the stretching room but that was always my favorite part. I'm glad they didn't change that part! :mickey:

I can't wait to get down there and see/hear this refurb for myself. when we went in December '06, the audio was so bad - it kept cutting out and crackling. Glad they upgraded it.

I agree.. the HM looks great...not crazy about all the brides but I understand the story behind it. I know they will be doing CBJ soon if they have started already - that one really need an overhaul also my all time favorite CofP should be done soon.

I have to say the CM's really make this ride for me. I always love it when the CM plays the trick in the stretching room where s/he moves to another place or sneaks up behind someone when the room goes dark. It is always great to see them pop up in a place where they weren't before. Also, the CM who is at the end of the loading area to make sure your bar is down is always comical. My brother and I always smile and wave at them and they always give the best reaction. They'll either give a nasty look or stare you down. It really makes me laugh.

As for the work done for the upgrade, I would have to say it was one of the best upgrades Disney has done in a long time. They really modernized this attraction and it made it more enjoyable for many more years to come!

Yes, the refurb was greatly needed! I was worried that they'd incorporate stuff from the movie or change things dramatically, but all the changes were great! Everything looks so much better and the ending change was an improvement.

I liked where they moved the guy and dog in the graveyard to. Also, I heard that the "ring" that so many people say is in the pavement was covered up. Not sure if this is true, but I thought I'd share just in case anyone was looking for it.

One other item... I did not see the body "hanging" in the ceiling of the stretching room. Did they eliminate that with the re-furb, or did I just miss it?

We had never seen if before until we read a "secrets of Disney" post about 4 or 5 years ago. So, the next time we were at WDW we looked for the body hanging from the ceiling and saw it briefly with the flash of light.

When we were there in March, I looked up but did not see this. Perhaps they removed it?

I don't think they would have removed it, the whole part of the spiel wouldn't make sense then. The last time I was there, I too busy harassing my sister to pay attention, but the Ghost Host says...

That is where the body hanging from the rafters comes into play, that is his way out. If they remove the body then his way is what, the attic window?

WVParkfan, maybe the body alone was being refurbed when you rode the Huanted Mansion, although I find it hard to believe Disney would let guests experience the attraction without that key show element.

When I went two months after the grand re-opening, the body was still tehre, in fact I noticed the lightning is much brighter and stays on longer to make sure people can see it now.

I didn't notice it when I went there in July, but I was too busy enjoying the "spook" effect. The CM was actually on the College Program and had a great time with us. He actually moved to a new location when it goes dark and snuck up a little kid right near me. It was really hysterical.
