???Motor Boat Rentals @ Boardwalk???

Post by drinkupmehardy » Apr Tue 29, 2008 12:45 pm

We are getting ready to leave for vacation on our DVC membership and was wondering if anyone knew if the Boardwalk or Beach Club offered the 2 seater Motor Boats for rent? We did this oveer Christmas when we stay at the Wilderness and it was a lot of fun, My daughter wanted to do it again and I wasn't sure if they were offered at the Boardwalk or Beach Club. Any advise is greatly appreciated. Thanks!!! 8-)

I got this from the All-Ears website:

WATER ACTIVITIES

Bayside Marina -- located just outside Disney's Yacht Club Resort, the marina is open from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. daily. This is the place to arrange IllumiNations cruises, other specialty cruises, or fishing excursions. You can also rent water mice, pontoon boats, and other water craft. Annual Passholders receive discounts off the regular price of boat rentals, subject to availability; certain restrictions apply. (Not valid for specialty cruises.)

Call 407-WDW-PLAY (or other numbers as indicated) for more information or to make reservations.

Albatross Treasure Cruise for ages 4-10 -- Children will wear bandannas as they follow clues and sail to many exotic "ports of call" around Crescent Lake and Epcot looking for treasure. During the voyage, children will hear a reading of "The Legend of the Albatross." At the final port of call, children will have lunch of peanut butter and jelly sandwich, cookie, and juice box, and will split up the "buried treasure." Held Wednesdays 9:30 - 11:30 a.m. Children must be potty trained -- no pull-ups. Price is $28.17 plus tax per child. Reservations are recommended. Call 407-WDW-DINE.

Canopy Boats -- 16', v-hulled motorized boats, accommodate up to 8 adults. $26.50/half-hour.

Pontoon Boats -- 21' motorized, canopied platforms on pontoons. Accommodate up to 10 adults. $42 per 1/2 hour.

Sea Raycers -- small craft that can speed up to 22 mph. Minimum age is 12, height requirement is 5 feet. Combined maximum weight limit for all passengers is 320 pounds. All drivers under the age of 18 MUST have a parent or legal guardian sign a release. Drivers 18 years of age must provide ID with birth date. $24 per 1/2 hour.

Specialty Cruise (food and beverage packages available) -- 12 guests maximum, including driver.

Breathless Specialty Cruise and Breathless Rides are suspended indefinitely.

Fishing -- There are several different types of fishing excursions departing from the Bayside Marina. Guided Bass Fish Excursion is a two-hour trip, 5 guests maximum. The Kid Fishing Around the World trip is a one-hour trip. Children 6-12 are eligible. Call WDW-PLAY for more information or visit the Fishing Excursion page for more details on other fishing trips.

Cabana Beach Club -- located outside Walt Disney World Dolphin. Rent pedalboats and hydrobikes. Annual Passholders receive 15% off the regular price of boat rentals, subject to availability; certain restrictions apply. Call 407-934-4000, ext. 6158 for more information or to make reservations.

Pedal Boats -- about $6.50/half-hour.

Hydrobikes -- resemble bicycles affixed to pontoons. Single $8/half-hour; double $17/half-hour.

The Yacht/Beach Club offer those boats. Funny you should bring this up since I have a story that is all about a boat rental there.

I would think that renting one of those Sea Raycers would be more enjoyable from a location on Bay Lake or the Seven Seas Lagoon, because you have much more water to play on. :nemo:

What's the story?

Also, I have a couple of questions regarding the boats:

1) Are they worth the money? I've always wanted to do it because they look like so much fun and they're so cute, but I have been on boats all of my life and have been driving them since I was about 10, so I didn't know if I would have as much fun.
2) If I decide to do them, is there a place to store your stuff or is it better to show up basically with nothing?
3) We are going in December (our first December trip) - is it possible to even rent them then? And if we can, will it be too cold to enjoy?

I posted it somewhere else, but it ended with my brother and mom being towed into the marina by the lifeguards. Their engine ended pointing towards the sky. Don't ask me how they managed to do that. I was in the other boat with my dad.

1. Those boats to me are not worth the money. They are a lot of fun, but if you are looking to have some good family fun, rent the bigger pontoon boat.

2. There is no place to store your stuff and you will probably get wet. It all depends on your driving. For example if you cut a lot of sharp turns. I would say show up in your swim suit.

3. I have no idea. I always go in summer.

My wife and I rented a small canopy boat from the Yacht Club marina a couple of years ago. It was fun toolin' around - plus you can go all the way to the studio entrance. We were so tempted to pick up passengers waiting for the Friendships.

I just talked to someone at Bayside Marina (Yacht Club) and they confirmed that the two seat motor boats can be rented there. The person I spoke to wasn't sure but thought the rental cost was $36-38 per half hour. I hope she was incorrect and the WVParkfan info is more accurate! Perhaps she meant hourly rate?
