How about an Alien?

I don't know exactly what you're talking about, but if you mean Stitch, then yes, I agree he has to go too.

If you were referring to Alien Encounter, then no I don't think that was a breach of theming. First let me say taht I'm a fan of the retro-tomorrowland only because Future World is right down the road (DL would be a different story). That being said, aliens, such as ther alien from alien encounter were part of this sci-fi genre. The attraction also fit the theme of Tomorrowland much better too by using the backstory of an alien race trying to sell futuristic transportation technology. The attraction itself may not have belonged in Disney at all, but the theming was spot on.

I really liked the idea of the Tomorrowland Causeway being a showcase for inventors and their futuristic technologies. It was almost like an intergalactic world's fair or, even better, the EPCOT Center of the distant future.

Totally. Stitch isn't from the future, he's just an alien. He's more fantasy than anything else. If you want to say he's from the future because we haven't met aliens yet...well, we haven't met giant fluffy bunnies that run around sing songs either, but that's not necessarily the future (and probably not one any of us would want to be a part of!).

I didn't like AE at all, but, as you said, it was themed properly.

In Stitch's defense - and only of the character being present in TL, not the ride itself - I don't think he's as heinous a breech of theming as MILF. If we're going to take the futuristic spaceport as the 'current' theme of TL, and I think we have to since that's what it's been since the last refurb in .. 94?, then I don't really have a problem with them incorporating Stitch as a way to make a movie tie-in in TL. Yes, he's not futuristic in the way you'd consider Future World things to be, but he fits the alien theme they had going on as well as the Alien in Alien Encounter (or maybe more accurately Skippy). I'd give the same pass to Buzz, simply because they're playing off the character Buzz in his 'real space ranger' role more than playing off of him as a toy. Given my druthers, I'd rather both rides had gone in a different land (or park), in favor of something original in TL, but I don't find either of them as offensive as I find MILF.

That said, of course, the Alien Encounter attraction was better thought out and better executed that Stitch. Given what they -could- have done to incorporate Stitch, it's really a shame the way it turned out. I still think the animatronic is really impressive, but can't be bothered to sit through the attraction very often to see it.

I like/d the futuristic spaceport idea as well. I actually think it was very clever of them to try to reinvent TL in that manner considering Future World is a 10 minute monorail ride away. Well ... I mean it would have been if they could have stuck to the spaceport idea and actually kept Future World futuristic. But ...

I think the only reason this is even a small issue is that it's such an obvious and uninspired attempt to crowbar a marketable character into a place he really doesn't belong. If they'd built the attraction from scratch, with some actual imagination, it would most likely have fit in as AE did. The actual technical objection is, admittedly, somewhat pedantic.

A lot of these theming problems come from "character creep". The movie characters have burst forth from Fantasyland and contaminated the other lands and parks like an invasive species. The Pixar kudzu is especially thick these days.

Something about PIXAR just doesn't seem right anywhere in the Magic Kingdom, even Fantasyland.
Some of Disney's movies just wouldn't fit in Fantasyland either.

Fantasyland = European village and classic fairytales.

I'm perfectly fine with it, but I can't help to notice how Aladdin's and Lion King's presence in MK's and DL's Fantasylands are the only ones that don't follow the medieval europe theming.

I guess there's also dumbo and small world (but that ride is supposed to be in a far corner of the land by itself. They got the placement completely wrong in MK)

I guess in my mind I have my own idea of the way things should be.

I agree with a lot of what you are saying here... but I don't feel they are playing Buzz "CORRECTLy" with his real space ranger role because Zurg is stealing BATTERIES! That to me states it's still a child's imagination... or at least it still is in the toy world.

OMG... I completely forgot about SIR. As if the ride weren't intimidating enough they had him to get you even more nervous. What a personality that animatronic had! I felt like he could be a very dangerous person if you got on his bad side. The part where he says "or it could be suspended... indefinitley" sent chills down my back.

Yeah, I agree with you on that. It's a definite impediment to it being the 'space ranger' universe, and does break the show of him not being a toy (as does the queue, to some extent). I do think in general they made the attempt there to push him/the space rangers as 'in universe', though, rather than it being a mission to the closet of Andy's room. Definitely agree that it was not handled or pulled off perfectly, though. I wouldn't give that kind of pass to MILF; that was more my point there.

That whole preshow was terrifying. What they were thinking when they picked Tim Curry is beyond me. I don't think he's capable of sounding not-terrifying. (Though, that said, I loved that part of the attraction. Poor Skippy.)

Yes, with our last visit I submitted a joke and it was brought up. I was going hysterical. Also, the pointed the camera at my 1 year old brother and he started to clap it was ah-dorable. Everytime we mention he has a huge smile on his face. I LOVE IT!

I went on this once and had to just wait for the next showing to begin.. about an 8-10 minute wait. It was pretty funny and I definitely liked how they singled out one person during the show. The submitted jokes during my show were really bad, but it is something I would go on next time. I was just shocked that there was never a line for it.
