Hi everyone!
Well...we are planning on going to WDW next June (the beginning of the month). Last time we stayed at French Quarter but this time I would like to stay somewhere different! (We were looking at the AKL but we can't really justify the price of staying there, over a moderate). Don't get me wrong, I really enjoyed the French Quarter! So what does everybody think of Riverside? Compared to FQ? I look forward to hearing your opinions! Thanks!

Por favor, mantenganse alejado de las puertas!

I think it's just personal preference. I've stayed at FQ a bunch of times when it was still Dixie Landings. We've also stayed at Riverside, which we really didn't care for, we don't like the whole New Orleans theme. It's just personal preference. Some people may really love that.
I think if you stayed at a deluxe resort you would see why there is a price jump. You'd then have a hard time going back to a moderate resort. We stay deluxe whenever we can!!! The Polynesian is our all time favorite, to us, that's home!
I hope you have a wonderful trip next June!!!

I think you've got these flipped. It was Riverside that used to be Dixie Landings, and French Quarter (formerly just Port Orleans) that has the New Orleans theme. So .. that's probably good news for the original poster, since you liked Riverside better then?
Of the two, I've only stayed at French Quarter, so I can't comment on Riverside more than to say it's very pretty, much more spread out, and has a nice sit-down restaurant.

I LOVE the Port Orleans Riverside resort. We seem to stay in the mansions most often, but the rooms are the same in the bayou. My wife and I like to lake walks in the evening. We like having the boat to DTD (which FQ has, too). The food court at POR is better than the one in FQ, in my opinon. I suppose the biggest difference is the amount of area the resort covers; FQ is much smaller, but POR feels less crowded to me. The deluxe resorts are great and we have chosen them when we have the kids and grandkids going. But, when it's just the two of us, we choose a moderate because the difference in price will cover our airfare.
It's also a lot of fun to rent one ov those bicycle surreys. You get a good workout.

Riverside Bayou's is one of my favorite resorts!!!
We have stayed at the Mansion, but as a rule always pick Riverside. I think it has great theming and a kick butt food court. We have stayed there multiple times and its always a standby for us. We tend to stay at different resorts to mix it up.
I have to agree that the boat to DTD is fun to take.
If you are looking to switch I would completely recommend Riverside.

POR is a very nice moderate resort and probably the most popular moderate among my clients. I've stayed there just once (also when it was Dixie Landings) and it's got the most deluxe feel to it in my opinion. Huge themed pool, super food court, lush landscaping and love that boat ride over to DTD. If we were to stay at a moderate resort again POR would be my choice - and it's always great to try a new resort I think!
That said, you might be surprised how affordable the AKL and/or WL are in terms of the Deluxe properties - if you did a non-savanna view at AKL or a standard/woods view at WL you might find it to be within reach of the budget, especially if Disney continues to release specials!
Enjoy planning!

I love Riverside!!! We've been staying there for years, and it's like a home away from home. The surroundings are gorgeous; you can stroll around the winding paths, or you can walk along the river to FQ and back. The boat ride is relaxing and fun and beats the bus by a mile. The main pool is fun, but our kids also love the private pools. We get a ground floor room in one of the "mansions," just a few steps away from the pool, so the kids can jump in the pool first thing in the morning and last thing at night. If you have little kids, there's a nice playground near the main pool with lots of places to climb and white sand to land in when they fall down. The restaurants are nice and the food court is pretty decent; we especially like it for breakfast.
Hope this helps you.

Hi EmsPrincess: I have stayed at the FQ twice and Riverside three times. I love both, but there is something about Riverside that I absolutely love. It's my favorite moderate! I just love the main building and the availability of both a sit down and counter service resturant. The boat to Downtown is a big plus and so relaxing compared to the bus! I don't think you will be disappointed with a stay at Riverside.

I love Riverside. My wife and I are staying there in Dec. and this will be the 3rd time staying a RS. I think this is by far the best moderate resort. And I love the boat ride to Downtown Disney. The counter service area is I think the best of all the resorts. I think you will be very pleased with this resort.

Riverside is absolutely beautiful. My fiancé and I had our engagement photos taken there, it really is a hidden gem.

Of the moderates we have stayed at the POR and Caribbean and enjoyed POR more. Neat slide and pool. Great food choices. And perhaps it's just my perception, but I think the bus made less stops going to the parks.
boilerbabe is right though, it's hard to go back to the moderates after you have been to the deluxe, but the budget dictates so the next trip we are sliding back to the Pop Century from the Wilderness Lodge.

I think I'm in the minority here, but I don't really care for the POR. My first stay there was last month. I've stayed at most of the other deluxe, moderates and values (except All Star). POR just didn't have that Disney feel to it. Don't get me wrong -- it was nice, clean, and well maintained. There were some thematic touches here and there, but I just wasn't impressed and the 4 bus stops didn't help. If I stay in a moderate again, I'll choose FQ before POR.

I've stayed at POR and POFQ and I like both. I like the streets from the POFQ but I guess I have a place in my heart for POR (*coughDIXIEcough*) since I've been there 3 times and I have a lot of memories that have happened on the trips that I've stayed at that resort.
